Sgt. Joseph George Schuengel

Beloved and loving son of Georgiana (nee Fennewald) and the late Joseph Bernard Schuengel; dearest brother of Barbara (Farid “Gabe”) Azzam, Suzanne Shoemaker, and Adrianne (Charles) Miller; awesome uncle of Mark (Maureen), Michael, Ryan, Christina, Greta and Mary; dearest nephew of Adrian (Mary) Fennewald; dear cousin, friend, neighbor, godfather and hero.

Joe attended Ranken Technical College where he received his Associates Degree. He worked for Laclede Gas for ten years. He later went on to pursue his life’s vocation as a Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper for seventeen years, seven of which he spent as a helicopter pilot in Troop C (St. Louis).

Joe’s kind and compassionate spirit infused with his special sense of humor touched many lives. He had a special place in his heart for those in need, including animals. Joe never turned anyone away, which afforded him several opportunities to fix a furnace, or save a life. Joe loved horseback riding in his spare time.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 19, 2010 from 2 PM to 9 PM at Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary, 6464 Chippewa at Watson. A celebration of Mass of Christian burial will be conducted Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at 10:00 AM at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis. The interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joe’s memory may be made to MASTERS (Troopers Fund) , Backstoppers or Masses. Condolences may be offered at www.hoffmeistercolonial.com.
