We wish mom was there to share with Star the moment she became a grandma...

Mom would have loved her great granddaughter and been heavily involved... Star and I know this and miss the chance to see her with Lillian....

My cousin Julia will always be in my heart as she was loving, very energetic, giving person, (good mother, great grandmother, wonder sister, intelligent teacher, giving in her time as a volunteer, the list goes on.) My condolences to Joe and her children and grandchildren. She will be truly missed as she was loved.

Mrs. Margraff was a mentor and friend. While I am among many who have fond middle school memories of our favorite science teacher, I was also fortunate later to have sustained a penpal relationship with her while I was teaching in Costa Rica. She was willing to share tips for the classroom but also open about her own life and how she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. I'm very grateful for her loving presence and influence in my life. 

When my sister, Chey and I were little and would spend the night at my grandma and grandpa's house we'd watch a movie before bed sometimes. Anyways we watched a few different ones, no matter what we watched Grandma would ask a hundred questions throughout. We'd always tell her that we can't tell her that she just has to watch and see then grandpa would say Julia you just have to watch. HAHAHA but always before our movies grandma would make our popcorn and get our bowls out thay we always used, each bowl was a different color and we each used the same one every time. After that Grandma would make sure we each had a cover to keep us comfy and warm during the movie. She always checked to make sure we were comfy. I miss those nights watching movies, eating our popcorn in our same bowls and her always wanting us to be comfy and warm. I'll be honest watching a movie with grandma was no easy task with all of her questions, but I will forever cherish those nights with her. Chey and I would always giggle and say grandma you just have to watch and see what happens hahaha

There is so much I could say about my grandma so many memories with her. I am very greatful that I had my grandma for as long as I did. I am so happy that my grandma took all of us grandkids to things. My grandma took us to the zoo, botanical garden, powder valley, STLCC (xmas parties, Halloween, movie nights), and so so so much more. I've been to DC and Florida with my grandma, I remember both trips with her. Grandma made sure her grandkids had fun and experienced all things. My grandma loved nature and animals so naturally the two places we spent a lot of time as kids with her was the zoo and powder valley. She always kept her eyes open on all events that she could take us kids to, she was the best at that. My grandma was always so active and on the move. I will forever miss her and think of her when I visit all of those places but I'll smile and think of all the fun times with her and my siblings at these places. My grandma will forever be in my heart but I know she'll always be here with me in spirit but she's a piece of my dad, my sisters and brother, we all have a little bit of her in us.

I have known Julia since my childhood.  She was the much loved sister of my brother’s ( deceased) wife Beth.  I have fond memories of styling her hair as a child while she sat patiently.  As members of my extended family, she  and her family were always a welcome additions to family occasions.  This is, I know, a difficult time for her husband Joe, her daughter Joan, and son  Joe, as well as many family members and friends.  My condolences go out to them as I keep them in prayer.


I will always be so grateful that Miss McDermott was my fifth grade teacher. She was truly a Teacher! She believed in us. If she said we could do it, by golly, we could! She greatly encouraged my love for books and reading, a love which has stayed with me to this day. As one of her students, I respected and admired her so much that I wanted to do my best and not disappoint her.  Thank you, Miss  McD, for making me want to be a better person! In recent days we've spoken to many colleagues and students of mom. Please know mom had her thoughts and very good clarity thru this all. She spoke highly and thought so much of you all. Much like her savior once you became a part of her circle she always watched over you and took interest in your lives. As my wife and I are blessed to call her mom, though the term used for 25 plus years was grandma in our house, you all blessed her as students, parents of students, colleagues, neighbors and friends. My children forever have a friend in grandma and she watches over them now just a voice away. She has touched all of our lives and this doesn't change that as she will forever impact us. I cannot express the gratitude we have for the incredible love and support and kindest of words. You all warm our hearts and bring smiles of memories shared and  how much mom meant. I've been told by students and colleagues more than once these past few days that if mom wished for a public viewing and service we would need perhaps several days and finding the church large enough to house all who would attend would not be any easy task. I thank you for those words and thoughts. With that said as mom was  a lover of science as you all know very well, she expressed concern due to covid these past 2 years. This concern was not only for her husband, my wonderful father Joe Sr, but all of us from her daughter Joan, myself and my wife Star and her grandchildren Paige, Cheyenne, Trevor, and Patience and her dear brother Tom and niece Ashley. It also extended to all of you as she always thought outward. Moms wishes were to be remembered and celebrated and for everyone to remain safe and respectfully keep her service private. She also believed your memories and prayers were more than enough and instead of flowers to do for yourselves and think of her as she thought of all of us. We love you mom, grandma, Mrs. Margraff, dear and beautiful Julia. You are forever with us all.

These pictures are from when Trevor, Patience, Kelly and I took grandma out for some Mexican food. It was always one of her favorites and that's what we ate to celebrate our birthdays nearly every year. We have other great photos from that day but these one's are my favorites. Everyone at the table ordered sodas so grandma decided to order one too.  Grandma always said "drink your soda with a straw." Trevor thought it was the funniest/cutest thing ever. Those two were the bestest of friends and I'm happy to have captured this adorable moment.
