Kathleen received her undergraduate degree from Harris Teachers College and master’s degree from St. Louis University, both in education. She was a lifelong resident of Dogtown and parishioner of St. James the Greater. She started her teaching career in the St. Louis public schools, teaching at Scruggs School for 13 years. Kathleen returned to teaching at St. James the Greater in 1986, where she taught until 2006. She truly had the gift for teaching and generations of children were proud to call themselves “Kelly Kids.” Kathleen and her late husband, Martin, were very active in the St. Louis Irish community promoting Irish culture. She was one of the founding members of the St. Louis Gateway Feis Society and served many roles as part of the Young Ireland Club. Kathleen was a very active parishioner at St. James the Greater, including spending 37 years in the kitchen cooking 1200lbs of her famous cabbage on St. Patrick’s Day. Kathleen’s love for life, teaching, all things Irish, and her faith had a huge impact on countless persons and she will be greatly missed.
