Lee Myers Keefer Sr.

Lee was the loving husband and best friend of Suzanne "Skippy" (nee Burch) Keefer; devoted father of Lee "Bo" (Kathy) Keefer, Jr. and Nancy (Frank) Schmer; cherished Papa of Victoria (Johnny) Lawson, Peter Sussman, Lily Molina, Jane (Ian) Gibaut, Louise Keefer, Anna (A.J.) Anthon, Sophie Molina, Haley Schmer, Koby Schmer, and Suzanne Keefer; and dear great-grandpapa of Louise Rose Gibaut.

Lee grew up in Webster Groves and attended Webster Groves High School. He attended Arizona University on a Football/Baseball scholarship. He was drafted into the US Army during the Korean Conflict and later finished his education at Mizzou on a Baseball Scholarship and earned his Bachelor of Science. While at Mizzou, he was president of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.

Lee was the owner of Keefer's Sporting Foot, an institution in Webster Groves for over 20 years. He was active in many community organizations, including the Lion's Club and Chamber of Commerce, and in 1979 was named Webster Groves Citizen of the Year. He was very active in coaching youth athletics in Webster Groves.

Lee volunteered teaching 7th and 8th grade PE and coaching athletics at John Burroughs School, and was eventually hired as part of the faculty.

Lee cherished his time with his grandkids and never missed any of their sporting events. Every spring break, he and Skippy brought all their children and grandchildren to Anna Maria Island. Many of his fondest memories were made there.

He lived joyfully, laughed frequently, and loved unconditionally. Lee will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Lee's memory to WGSD - The Community Legacy Wall or John Burroughs School Athletics would be greatly appreciated by his family.

A Celebration of the Life of Lee Myers Keefer, Sr. will be held on Sunday, February 9, at 1pm at John Burroughs School, 755 South Price Road, 63124 in Haertter Hall. Lee will be laid to rest with Full Military Honors in a private ceremony at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
