

Mike was the beloved husband of the late Christine (nee Kelly) Smith; loving and devoted father of June Smith, Elizabeth (Tim Linck) Smith, and Warren (Amy Herrmann) Smith, IV; cherished grandpa of Patrick Linck; dear brother of Kathleen (Paul) Wiese, Gary (Donna) Smith, Kevin (Terrill) Smith, Karen Johnston, and Warren (Betty) Smith III; dear brother-in-law of Colleen (Harry Solomon) Starkloff, J. Daniel Kelly, Kathleen (Dave Boyer) Kelly, Nina (Joe Hovland) Kelly, Mary Carol (Frank) Landwehr, Peter Kelly, Margaret (Dave Owens) Kelly, Bridget (John) Ries, and the late Mary Elizabeth Kelly, the late Robert Kelly, Jr., the late James Johnston, and the late Max Starkloff; a dear uncle, great-uncle, cousin, and a dear friend to many in his lifetime.
Born on March 6, 1951, Michael Warren Smith was an example of kindness and love throughout his life. He was known for his generous heart, unwavering support, and incredible sense of interesting humor that brought joy to so many. His jokes and laughter were a constant source of happiness, and his presence provided comforting reassurance to all who knew him.
Mike was an Eagle Scout and an avid hockey player. He helped coach his little brother’s hockey team and was actively involved in scouting. He often spent his summers as a lifeguard, teaching swim lessons.
As a young man, he was an enthusiastic ice skater and worked at the renowned Steinberg Ice Skating Rink. It was there that he met his future wife, Chris, while she worked in the office and he was a rink attendant. He attended Cleveland high school in South St. Louis and received an engineering degree from Washington University.
In August of 1977, Mike married the love of his life, Chris. Together they had three wonderful children: June, Elizabeth, and Warren.
He was a mechanical engineer at places such as Anheuser-Busch Brewery, Perrier, and Boeing, where he worked for many years. Throughout his life, Mike was a caregiver to many, including his grandfather, his wife, his sister-in-law, his mother, and the occasional nephew or niece.
Mike loved dining out and discovering great spots to eat across St. Louis. He was also a lifelong St. Louis Blues fan and enjoyed sharing stories.
Mike was always there when you needed him, offering his wisdom and a helping hand without hesitation. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends who were blessed to have known his kindness, laughter, and love.
A Memorial Visitation will be on Friday, January 2, 2026 from 4-8pm at Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary, 6464 Chippewa Street 63109. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, January 3, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church 4092 Blow Street 63116.
