Randall “Randy” L. Moe was born on February 24, 1951 in Stoughton, Wisconsin. He was the son of Maxine Parsons and Carl Moe. He was raised in Edgerton Wisconsin and attended Edgerton community schools through the 9th grade. Of the many fine memories, experiences and relationships he had while in Edgerton, he particularly appreciated learning about faith at St. John’s Lutheran Church and his experiences in the Edgerton school system. In September, 1966, he enrolled in the pre-ministerial program at Concordia College high school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, graduating in 1969. He graduated from Concordia Senior College in Fort Wayne, Indian in 1973 and attended Christ Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri, graduating in 1977.
In 1980 he married Kathleen Cradick in St. Louis and in 1982 was ordained in the Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches. He served as a chaplain in the St. Louis City Detention Center and St. Louis City Hospital before leaving the ministry in 1992. He became a mental health counselor in a community agency in Madison County, Illinois providing individual, couple and family counseling. He also worked as a counselor in a family medical practice and in 1998 was a family therapist in a two year national research program for substance abusing adolescents at Chestnut Health Systems where he received a Master of Education in Counseling degree at the University of St. Louis Missouri. In ministry and counseling he was blessed with many fine mentors and colleagues.
Randy was a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church since 1980 where he worshiped with his family. Lutheran liturgy, theology and community bolstered his faith, enriched his personal life and gave depth to his counseling relationships. He enjoyed listening to music and playing the guitar, reading, learning new things and working in the yard. Most of all Randy cherished time with family: his wife, daughter and son. His wife, Kathleen, was a delight in his life and an anchor during stormy times; his daughter Carolyn a model of determination; his son Christopher a constant source of joy and amazement. His mother and grandparents provided him a wonderful childhood and modeled for him the courage needed to face the many challenges life brings.
He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Moe, a brother, Thomas, his step-father Donald Parsons. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen, a special daughter, Carolyn and a gifted son, Christopher, all of Eureka; his mother, Maxine Parsons of Madison, Wisconsin; his uncle, Robert Maves of Edgerton, Wisconsin and his special cousin, Jerry Maves of Elkhorn, Wisconsin; Diane Hurley of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin and Teresa Pirkle, Stoughton, Wisconsin; his mother-in-law Laverne Cradick, St. Louis, brother-in-law, Tom Cradick, St. Charles, MO, brother-in-law Mike Cradick, Dublin, Georgia and sister-in-law, Ellen Olleschuck, St. Charles, MO.
