Rose Louise Deering (age 93) of Burke, VA passed away peacefully at her home on May 4, 2025. Born in St. Louis, MO on October 13, 1931, Rose was the daughter of Italian immigrants, Cessarina (Maria) and Dionigi (Frank) Sacchi, who hailed from Bassignana, Italy. She is survived by her loving husband of sixty-one years, Ronald M. Deering; children Mary Renee (John), Drew (Catherine), and Stacy; grandchildren Mary (Justin), Bronwyn, Ceara, Shane, Elizabeth, and Caroline; and great-granddaughter Dolly.
Rose earned a BA degree in elementary education from Webster College in 1953. She taught third and fourth grades at St. Ann’s in Normandy, MO and later in the Lindbergh School District in St. Louis County. When her family relocated to Virginia in 1982, she found a “home” at Lord of Life Pre-School working as an assistant teacher and volunteered as a Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) instructor at St. Mary of Sorrows Catholic Church. As a lifelong educator, Rose’s love, skill, and patience for teaching continued into her later years as she guided her grandchildren through the basics of reading, writing, and the fundamentals of the Catholic faith and provided valuable life lessons. Noni, as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren, proudly attend all their performances, school and sporting events, and special occasions. These occasions always warmed her heart and brought a smile to her face.
As a devout Catholic, Rose’s faith was an essential facet to who she was as a person. She spent her life seeking to know, reflect, and embody her religion pursuant to loving, honoring, and serving God. She was an active member of Mary Queen of Peace parish in Webster Groves, MO volunteering regularly at parish events, in her children’s classrooms and the school cafeteria, and assisted her husband with the PTA. Rose was an active parishioner of St. Mary of Sorrows Catholic Church attending daily mass, participating in bible studies, rosary groups, the Italian Club, social functions, and volunteering to assist with parish activities and events.
Rose was known to have deep affection for her hometown of St. Louis. She cheered for the Cardinals and the Blues and loved Ted Drewes. Into her 90’s, she reveled in her annual trips to St. Louis to see her many old friends and visit the Hill to bring home Missouri Bakery cookies and Volpi salami.
Rose was devoted to her family, extended family, and friends. To know her was to love her. She was soft, caring, and faced the world with humor and strength. She charmed everyone she met with a kind smile, earnest gaze, gentle touch, and open arms. She effortlessly made people feel welcome. Her giving warmth was consistent as she was persistent: if you had no one to talk to, she would start a conversation; if you had nowhere to spend the holidays, she would invite you into her home; if you were shy, she would make introductions; and if you were in need she would give you her prayers. Rose taught her children and grandchildren love and dedication. She will be forever in their hearts.
