

Walter was a loving father of Bryan (Elizabeth) Collier, Jeffrey (Pam) Collier, and Andrew (Andrea) Collier; dear ex-husband of Suzanne (nee Schallert) Collier; beloved grandpa of Oliva, Kirsten, Emma, Joshua, Heather, Ayanna, Sarah, Marissa, Alex, Georgia, and Nick; dear brother in Law of David Eiffert; caring uncle and cousin. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence E and Marian C. (nee Coates) Collier and his sister, Shirley Eiffert.
Walter was a graduate of Roosevelt High School Class of 1965, home of the Rough Riders.
Walter Served our City for 31 years in the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. He held several roles in his law enforcement career including patrolman in the 2nd,and 3rd districts; undercover in Vice and a member of the Major case squad. Walter was promoted to the rank of Sergeant supervising in communications and the 1st district.
He continued his career for 8 additional years as a Ranger at the St. Louis Zoo.
Walter stayed active as a Cub Master and Boy Scout Leader; He owned "Walter"s Auto Repair" shop; He took care of his parents and baby-sat his grandkids; He volunteered as a cook at Police Retirement and Veteran Fish Fry events. He flew RC airplanes, collected tools, and enjoyed going to the casino. He country western danced and taught dance classes for couples. Walter loved to play the piano.
He loved the outdoors; boating, water skiing, sailing, fishing, and camping. He spent many happy days at his Hawk Valley Farm driving his tractors, hunting, raising bees and gardening.
He was a great story teller... about police work, scouting, deer camp, or family.. he loved to make people laugh. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A visitation will be held Friday, February 7th, 2025 from 4-8pm at Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary, 6464 Chippewa Street 63109. Burial will be Saturday, February 8th,10am at Memorial Park Cemetery for family and close friends.
