David is such a gentle man with a heart full of kindness. I pray that you can eventually find peace in your heart knowing that David is rejoicing with family in heaven. We send you our love. Dave Amos, a true Patriot, teacher, deacon, and mentor to many of us. He will be greatly missed. He will now join with all those saints that have gone on before. Our thoughts and prayers are with Janell, Chris and Julie and their extended family. Although a sad time, I do celebrate his life and the eternal life he has now entered.

I remember David was always so nice to me when I was a greeter at church on Sunday mornings.

To Julie and Jorie and the entire Amos family, you have my sincerest condolences on the passing of your father.

Our family loves playing games at the holidays and we have many fond memories of playing card games, dominoes, and charades with Uncle Dave.  Thanksgiving won't be the same without him engineering the train at the dominoes table.  A big hug, lots of love, and all our sympathy to Aunt Janell and Chris and Julie and their families.

You could say that David got me "hooked" on my favorite hobby - he taught me how to fish.  We had gone out on my boat and had been unsuccessful for quite awhile when he suggested we try a different bait - a rooster tail.  I laughed thinking he was kidding - I hadn't ever even heard of such a thing!  But he was serious - and of course he had some in his well stocked tackle box - and so we cast out with our rooster tails and started catching white bass like crazy.  It continues to be my favorite lure and I think of Dave whenever I get a good haul like we did that night.

When I think of my Dad, the Dad of my childhood, I remember a strong, athletic, man. I was certainly a Daddy's girl when I was young.  When I was tired, he carried me.  When I wanted something, I usually got it.  One example I remember well was the time we went to the Humane Society to pick out a puppy.  My brother, Chris, really wanted this German Shepard mix puppy.  So he came over to me and told me to tell Dad that the German Shepard mix puppy was the one I wanted.  You see, my brother knew Dad would give me what I wanted even if I didn't realize it at the time.  So being the good little sister (and not having found any puppy I really wanted more) I told Dad that was the puppy I wanted.  And voila, that's the puppy we got.  We (Chris) named him Prince. 
 
My Dad was very athletic.  He was good at about any sport he played.  He pitched slow pitch softball for the Southwest Baptist men's team for many years.  I remember fondly many evenings at Forest Park watching him and his team play softball.  And they were league champs many times and it was even more fun rooting for a winning team.  He also bowled and played ping pong.  

My Dad loved to fish.  He grew up farming with his family in Arkansas and he loved to grow vegetables (garden) and be outdoors.  My Mom always said he would have been a great pioneer back in the days of pioneers.   I remember one summer when I was a child, when he went to Minnesota for Outward Bound where he canoed on the rivers for miles and miles and miles.  It was back to nature for him and he came back home with a full beard and mustache (that was different!).   My daughter, Jorie, has envisioned a large pond outside his mansion in heaven.  Jorie says that Dad catches fish and then releases them unharmed.  And the fish enjoy it!

My Dad (and Mom) also liked to play games  card games, dominoes, charades, etc.  Dad was really good at games (especially card games like Pinochle) and enjoyed playing with family and friends.   Okay, he really wasn't good at charades, especially later in life, but he still was a good sport and played!   I have many happy memories of playing games with my Dad (and family).  

My Dad was a very honest man.  He was also a forgiving man.  No matter what squabble he may have had with a friend or family member, he never refused to talk to them or let a rift tear them apart.  And I am grateful for his examples of integrity, humility, grace, and loyalty. 
 
My Dad was very involved in church.  He was a deacon for many, many years.  And we were at church every time the doors were open - Sunday morning, Sunday evening, and Wednesday evening.  My parents have lifetime friends they met at Southwest Baptist Church and they were all there to celebrate with us all the especially good times of our lives such as the adoption of my daughter, Jorie Elianna Amos, and the marriage of my brother to my sister-in-law, Kim.   They were there to celebrate my Dad's big birthdays (50, 60, 70, and 80).  And they were there during any hard times, too, like when my Dad was hospitalized for a serious infection that caused a brain abscess.  Our Church family whether at Southwest Baptist or Kirkwood Baptist Church (during my teen years) showed us God's love.  And I'm very thankful for all of them and that my Dad (and Mom) prioritized their faith and being part of a church.  

My Dad (and Mom) also prioritized education.  My Dad had to drop out of school at 14 when he was to start high school because the bus didn't come out far enough to pick him and his sibling up for school.  When they finally did have a bus they could ride, he was 17 and he went back to school.  At 19, he dropped out of high school to volunteer for the Army.  He served in the Korean War.  Eventually, he got his GED and went on to college where he earned a Bachelor and Master Degree in Education.  He was an intelligent man and he worked hard to make a good life for himself and his family.  
 
My Dad was a wonderful Grandpa.  He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He had the opportunity to spend lots of time with my daughter, his second granddaughter, Jorie.  They had a very special relationship.  A relationship I am especially grateful for since I adopted Jorie as a single person and she doesn't have an adopted Dad.  He doted on her and she was fiercely protective of her Grandpa.  They could do no wrong in each other's eyes.  What a beautiful love they have for each other! 

My Dad is loved.  And He will be remembered and missed until the day we will be reunited in Heaven with our Lord Jesus.

David has been my friend for over 45 years.  He openly shared his family with me, a newcomer to St. Louis when I first met him. We had many good times playing games and cards, camping, celebrating special occasions, or just partying.  David gave me wonderful moral support through tough times. He showed love and care to my children.  He has been a man of God his entire life. This special human being will be greatly missed.

So sorry for you loss. Glad Grandpa Amos came into this world to bring others we deeply love into the world as well. Sending love to you and yours.

Jane, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I hope that your memories give you some peace.

Mr. Amos was my istory teacher at southwest plus a few other classes he tought my prayers are with the Amos family. when I worked for Webster Grove Rec never dreamed I would again be reaquinted with my high school teacher. Soryy for you loss
