MY BEAUTIFUL MOTHER    (by daughter Marie Jorgensen)

My mother was always beautiful to me  she always had her hair done every week (which continued up to the end of her days at the New Harmony). She always dressed so cute with matching earrings, tennis shoes, belts etc.
She worked full-time most of her life in addition to raising me, and my three wonderful brothers Rey, Roger and Rodney. And believe me  I was not easy!  I gave her many many grey hairs! She and  my dad did a wonderful job  their love, guidance and constant support made us what we are today  and we thank you mom!
She was a very caring person  way way back she actually used to beg to babysit her grandchildren  she would make me cancel my babysitter for our 3 kids so she could watch them . Not always to my dad's satisfaction although he loved his grandkids too! Now that I am a grandmother I can relate  I also loved to babysit my grandkids  who are now all grown up!
She loved to entertain and party  somewhat of an Italian tradition I think  and was always there to help plan graduations, showers, weddings etc and always wanted to cook for anything or anybody she could  and she was a fabulous cook!  I must say though that there were sometimes disagreements  in the kitchen because my dad loved to cook too . And it was a small kitchen and got quite messy sometimes!
Mom would give you the shirt off her back  to anyone that needed it  always offering food, shelter, gifts or whatever she could gather up of her meager belongings and household. Everyone here can relate to all the goodie bags that she always made up for everyone to take home  right down to separate pieces of bread in little baggies  and including dessert too  and of course she always walked you down to your car for extra kisses goodbye and to make sure you didn't forget you bag! And always waving goodbye til she couldn't see you anymore! I think this is another Italian tradition! 
She was an avid bowler and golfer  golfing a couple of times a week in her earlier days. She did get one hole in one at Cimarron  She drove off the tee box  and then couldn't see her ball  after looking all over for it her friends said maybe you should look in the hole . And there it was  causing much excitement!  Sister-in-law Vicki (another good golfer) relates a cute story about the first time she went golfing with mom  Vicki teed up her ball  and as she lined up her driver to the ball the ball rolled off the tee  and mom said That's One!  what a laugh we all had about that.

Another thing I really marveled at was mom's perserverance  she could have a car problem (dad was beyond help by now) and she would call brother Rod and he would say: Well mom  just go down and lift the hood and look for this and then that and then do this to it.  And I was always astounded that she could and would do it! I wouldn't even know how to lift the hood! 
Or if the old garbage disposal got stuck  Well mom, just get the broom handle and stick it in there and jiggle it and again she would conquer! Rod always had faith in her and was a good mentor. 
Brother Rog was always there to take care of the lawn and check on them  spent many good times with mom at the casino and bingo  which I know was mom's second  love after her family; brother Rey was their caregiver for the last 15 years or so, handling their finances, upkeep and selling their house etc.
Mom was my dad's caregiver for more 12 years  always checking his diet, insulin shots, giving him meds, etc  and just always looking after him  she listened to many questions many times  and always tried to keep her cool . They celebrated a wonderful 69 years of marriage until dad passed away Nov. 18, 2010. They had spent 2 years in assisted living and 7 years at New Harmony Care Center.
 Mom was very well loved at the care center  everyone thought she was great and we all know she had such a great love of music  up to the last week  if you put big band songs on the CD player her feet would always be tapping and she loved to hold your hand from her wheelchair and dance.  They loved her sweetness and her beautiful smile (as we all did)  and she never complained about anything  
Over the years we have had a wonderful family  always enjoyed being together  and it was mom and dad that held us together. We have had our trials and tribulations  disagreements, etc but we always bounced back together. We will never forget them  they are with us forever! I'm so glad I got to spend a long long time with them  and tell them always how much I loved them and what a good job they did raising their family. And now we are all at peace knowing our mom and dad are singing and dancing together again  with all the wonderful relatives that have gone on before them  planning the next party and of course the menu  we know it will be spaghetti!  Goodbye my wonderful mother and father  until we meet again  I love you!

You made me part of your family and became my Grandma too!  Miss you!

Well mom ... it was a wonderful farewell celebration Friday for you (and dad)! Over 100 people attended just to honor you and tell you and us how special you were to each of them.What an honor to be so loved by so many ... you were truly a gift to us all! You were so generous, and always thought of everyone but yourself. We will miss you immensely ... but we know you and dad are dancing your socks off ... and are totally at peace being together again. You will be with us forever - around my neck I will be wearing your legacy necklace with the insignia "I will be with you forever" - and I know you will be. Rest in peace beautiful mother - I love  you ... Marie xx oo

Sweet Little Bernice danced her way to heaven.  I was so blessed to know her and your Dad.  I actually got to see them dance at New Harmony the first year my Mom was there. She so loved singing all the old songs they would listen to in activities. Such a precious Lady!  It was nice to get to know some of the family too.  My thoughts and prayers are with all of you as you grieve for your Mom. Hold tight to all of the wonderful memories she left with you, and know that her Angel Arms will always be around you.

To my cousins and family, We all loved Auntie Bernice.  I respected her so much.  She was a working woman with her own mind--back when that was not common.  She knew how to have fun and she always was there for others.  She was a bright light in our Ricci world.  Love to you all.  Marilyn Ricci

Mom, you gave all you had and never expected anything in return.  The love you shared with your family could never be duplicated, it always showed in your face. I gave you all I could and stayed with you as long as you wanted me to.  There could never be another as special as you.  Tell dad we miss him also until we meet again.

She had the kindest, purest heart.  I would say a heart of gold.  She raised a wonderful family and they adored her.  Her legacy of love will live on in them always. I am so blessed to be a part of it.

My prayers go out to all the family members

I pass along my sympathy to the family, and friends. If I may, in particular to Rodger and Rodney who I spent my school years with on the east side of St.Paul. It was great to see you both at our high school get-togethers, and it brought back memories of the Hazel Park / Beaver Lake area we are from.  May your mother rest in peace.
