It's almost been five years since you were taken from us so suddenly I miss you more and more every day. I love you daddy

I miss you so much daddy. I miss your hugs terribly, I know you are here with me... Well all of us but it's just not the same I love you so much and I just wish you could've met Cylus. I feel lost a lot without you but I know your watching over me hard to believe its almost been a yr since you passed

Dear Mason family, I just found out this morning about John's passing. I am truly sorry to hear this news!! He was a good man and I loved him and we had some really great times together. I wish you all peace and happiness, and may God bless you all and keep you in his light. He is in a wonderful place now and he is probably laughing right now because he is most likely telling a good joke to someone above! He sure had a great sense of humor! He is missed by many! I hope this message finds you all well and happy.....

John's life story:

John Charles Mason, Jr. was born on September 29th, 1964 in St. Paul,MN. to John & Judy Mason.  He was welcomed home by his 2 big sisters, Carol & Karen who loved to play with their baby brother.  As he got older, a favorite game they would all play was a silly version of Hide and Seek that they called "Hide the John" in which the sisters would take turns hiding their brother from each other.

John grew up and attended school in North Branch, MN.  He served in the US Navy as a Seabee heavy equipment operator.  In 1984 he married Shelli Liebelt and together they had 2 children, Brandon and Sara. In 1991 they bought their first home in St. Paul.

John had a great sense of humor.  One of his favorite shows was All in the Family and he even named his beloved dog Archie after Archie Bunker.

John worked many years at Edco and Bally Fitness.  In recent years, he was an excellent handyman and would often do work for family and friends. He loved hanging out with his many friends, playing pool,cards, and dice.  He could be the life of the party at times - taking the mic for karaoke and sharing his beautiful singing voice.  His extended family especially enjoyed hearing him sing his signature song, 
"King of the Road".

John was an avid golfer and in 2000 he experienced the thrill of a lifetime when he got a hole in one.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the Twins, Vikings, and playing horseshoes.  Perhaps his favorite pastime was sitting around a campfire with a beer in one hand - he would always be the last to leave.

John passed away peacefully at United Hospital in St. Paul on August 11, 2012 with his family by his side.  He was 47 years old.

He is survived by, and will be dearly missed by, 
His son, Brandon, Elyce, and granddaughter Karah,
His daughter, Sara and grandsons Damion, Lucas, and Cylus,
His parents, John and Judy Mason,
His sisters, Carol Ramberg and her husband Don, and Karen Knolls and her husband Mike,
Nieces, Nephews, and friends.

He will be loved and remembered by all who knew him.

I am so sorry to hear about John.  My prayers and thoughts go out to the family.  I have many great memories of him when we were just young and teenager.  John, Shelly and I all lived together in Watertown, SD.  I moved back to Northbranch and they stayed.  We always had a great time. Over the years my family lost touch with both of them.  He will be missed.  RIP John, from the Greybuffalo Family.

Very sad to hear about John!  I have many fond memories of Christmas celebrations at the Mason house and of John as a young boy.  Peace and love to all of the Mason family during this difficult time.

I loved seeing the picture of John and Shelly. Exactly how I remember them. Many prayers to your family to help you get through these dark days ahead. May God be with each and every one of you.

I knew John through friends. He was always a sweet man with kind words. He made sure to greet me when he saw me. John is smiling, no more pain, and will always be with his family in your heart and with everything you do. He was so proud of his grandkids. Deepest Sympathy and my thoughts and prayers are with all of you through this and every day.

I really enjoyed working and playing cribbage with John at the American Legion in St Paul Park!  We had some great times watching the Vikings play football while he was cooking and I was waitressing!  The kitchen's TV was 8 seconds faster than the bar so we would be hooting or booing when a play was made before the bar even knew what happened and boy did they get mad at us!!!  I will miss you John, maybe you can do some heavenly magic for the Vikings this year!!

I'm very sorry for your loss!  Praying for all of you, as you grieve his being gone too soon.
