Born on January 16, 1934 in Hammond, IN to Lloyd and Irene (Casey) Peck.
Died peacefully on April 16, 2026 with his adoring wife June (Johnson) at his side.
John and June were married on June 11, 1965 and had 60 wonderful years together.
Together John and June had 5 children; 15 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandsons.
John (Lynn) Peck; Nicole (Samuel) Primmer and baby Matthew, Emily (Weston) Nelson, Kathrine
Julie (Wade) Fick; Caleb, Rachel, Josiah, Malachi
Joy (TJ) Amlee; Anika, Amelia, Jackson
James (Lisa) Peck; Robert (Karly) and baby Anthony; Charles (Aviva) and baby Aspen, Lillian
Joel (Kate) Peck; Rosemary, Margot
John is preceded in death by his beloved daughter Julie, parents Lloyd and Irene Peck, and brother Charles (Mary) Peck. He was known by his family as Sonny, his childhood friends called him Squint, and his grandkids know him as Papa. He cherished his remaining siblings Virginia Peck, Tom Peck, Mary (Barry) McKee, and George (Cindy) Peck and their families.
Two great events defined John Peck’s life. Foremost, when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, repenting of his sins, forgiving people, and being born again. From that time on he lived his life radically as a disciple of Jesus, earnestly searching scriptures daily to sustain him and listening to the voice of The Holy Spirit to lead him.
His other life-defining moment was meeting and marrying June Johnson. June was his “Queen” and he kept her hand in his wherever they went. Through their 60 years, their children never heard them fight, choosing rather to constantly speak loving words of life and affection to each other. They gave up everything to be together and follow Jesus, wherever He led them. They prayed together daily, and God proved Himself time and again to be their Lord, provider, healer, encourager, deliverer, and giver of Life.
John lived an active life filled with adventure. He was drafted into the Korean Conflict, was an ironworker and rigger for cold war-era early warning radio towers, brought his family to live for the better part of a decade at Zion Harbor Family Bible Camp, and retired as a lineman for Xcel Energy and Donovan Construction. He enjoyed hunting ducks and deer with his Pa and brothers, mule deer in Montana, as well as fishing on Leech Lake. John was a Golden Gloves boxer, a pigeon racer, award winning ring-necked dove breeder, local cable cameraman, and had an impressive collection of Bible teaching cassette tapes. He found and polished agates, loved all animals, especially ducks, and recently neighborhood turkeys. John enjoyed woodworking, symphonies, untying knots, birdwatching, and cribbage.
He taught his grandkids to play cribbage and enjoyed “trouncing” them. He knew how to have fun and loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. He shared his affection through a playful spirit, quick wit, laughter, and a bowl of homemade yogurt. John Peck leaves a legacy of love. He made anyone who knew him feel like they were important. He loved deeply and was a vibrant reflection of God’s heart to everyone around him. He served selflessly at church: mentoring, counseling, vacuuming, helping with repairs, and scrubbing pots and pans. He blessed many neighbors by picking up their leaves each fall with his riding lawn tractor and clearing snow from driveways.
He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
1 John 4:10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at 11 am at Redeeming Love Church, 2425 White Bear Ave. in Maplewood, MN, with a visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
