

Mike proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1967-1973, including service in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat. He was honorably discharged, carrying with him a lifelong sense of duty, patriotism, and quiet strength.
He married his high school sweetheart, Karen Lee Stamness, and together they spent 37 years building a life together until her passing in 2007.
Mike was a dedicated employee of Soo-Line/Canadian Pacific Railroad, where he worked as a rail conductor for many years before retiring.
He was a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his three children Kimberly Mueller (Todd), Daniel Newton (Mary), and Nicholas Newton (Andrea); grandchildren, Abby, Mike, Shawn, Jack, and Will.
Those who knew Mike will remember him for his strong work ethic, reliability, his sense of humor, and deep pride for his family. Mike was a familiar face at the Sherwood Lounge, where he enjoyed pull-tabs, cribbage, and sharing laughs with friends.
Honoring Mike’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Surrounded by family. A private burial will be February 6 at 1:30 at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery with full military honors.
