Paul was an adventurous man who loved his family and friends. Paul never missed an opportunity to volunteer his services at church or in his community. He was always up for a cup of hot coffee and pastry. Paul enjoyed helping others and made friends everywhere he went. Paul loved camping, canoeing, sailing, and traveling. A proud Eagle Scout and 1960 graduate of North St. Paul High School Paul attended Art school prior to serving in the U.S. Army for 2 years before being honorably discharged.
Paul shared his life experience with others by serving as a Scoutmaster for many years; attending world jamborees in Australia, Japan, Norway, and hosting numerous trips to scout camps in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the Boundary Waters. During this time Paul hand-built his cabin on Leo Lake, near the gunflint trail, the cabin would become a cherished gathering spot for family and friends. Paul was an extremely talented graphic artist and he applied his unique skills as Minnesota’s first Police Forensic Artist and directly led to the successful capture & prosecution of violent criminals. Paul had a remarkable ability to bring people together, build a strong sense of community and long-lasting connections wherever he went. Paul’s courage, kindness, honor, and love will be deeply missed.
Paul received many awards & recognitions for his law enforcement forensics work at the SPPD, BCA and assistance he provided to many law enforcement agencies across Minnesota and Western Wisconsin. Paul was an active member of many volunteer organizations such as the Old West society, Minnesota Historical society, St. Paul Police historical society, St. Paul Police Explorers, Boy Scouts, and Kinship program. Paul was instrumental in preserving the history for the City of St. Paul and law enforcement for future generations; his work can be seen in many locations around St. Paul & Maplewood.
