

Wayne was born March 7, 1930 to Merris and Opal (Reed) Thompson. He was raised on a few different homesteads and graduated High School in Holloway, MN on May 28, 1948. He enlisted in the US Navy on September 7, 1948. Following his honorable discharge, he worked for the Olmanson Farm in Norseland, MN then onto his own farm in Kennsington, MN. At that farm he met his future employer, Dan Gainey, who hired him as his horse trainer. An occupation he enjoyed for a lifetime. Remaining friends with the Gaineys, he went into partnership in Meridan Farms outside Medidan, MN. He was also the editor of The Arabian Horse Times. Wayne became nationally known in the Arabian horse world for his training ability and knowledge of the breed. He retired in 1992 after being seriously injured by a horse. His love of Arabians was with him until the end.
Wayne loved bring around people and made many friends. He also loved camping at Winjum's Shady Acres Campground in Faribault, MN for 33 years.
Wayne is survived by his partner of 52 years Steve Overn, many nieces and nephews, 2 sister-in-laws, and many awesome friends.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Ronelva, Normal Jean, and Verna; brothers: Darrel, Dean, Harlan, Dale and Jack; step-mother Eva (Ellison-Swanson) Thompson and step-sister Jean Swanson.
A visitation will be held on March 3, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Wulff Funeral Home, located at 1485 White Bear Ave, St. Paul, MN 55106, United States.
A Celebration of Life will follow at the same venue, beginning at 3:00 pm.
