Albert “Tommy” Louis Tomlinson began his life’s journey on November 14, 1952 in Kingston, Jamaica. He was the eldest of seven children born to Albert Lloyd and Pearl Louise Tomlinson. During his childhood, the family moved to various parts of Jamaica but finally settled in Bamboo, St. Ann in December 1958 where he attended Bamboo All Age Primary School. In 1963, he received a full scholarship to York Castle High School where he was an avid athlete and excelled in religious knowledge and art classes. From an early age, his entrepreneurial abilities were recognized as he built and sold bicycles and intricate kites. Louis went on to the College of Arts, Science, and Technology (CAST) in 1968 now known as University of Technology. There, he was elected Vice President of the Students’ Union and Photographic Editor. He represented his department in almost every sport, team captain of the football team, and was an outstanding member of their track and field team. It was well known that Albert was an excellent dancer, photographer, cook, and driver.
He completed a diploma course in Construction Engineering and was employed by the Ministry of Communications and Works and also Kaiser Bauxite Company. He also held positions at Marley and Plant Construction Company, Higgs and Hill where he was heavily involved in the construction of Gun Court, and the National Housing Trust. In 1976, one of his lifetime dreams was fulfilled as he designed and built a home for his parents in Lilyfield, St. Ann. Two years later, he married his first wife Angella Jones. They migrated to the States in 1980 and he attended Baruch College in NYC, receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. He worked for Coco Cola Company for a number of years and then relocated to Maryland where he started his own construction company. He moved to Tampa, Florida in 1987 establishing Tomlinson Construction Company, which still remains active. While in Florida, he raised his three children: Sheldon, Lorraine, and Brittany. He loved spending time with them, playing dominoes with his many friends, and was dubbed the “fancy foot” dancer at parties.
Louis met his wife Alma in 2012. After praying for a partner for a year, God sent Louis through his childhood friend, who brought him to Alma’s house to meet her. They got privately married in November 2013, but wanted to publicly share their love for each other with their families by having a wedding celebration in August 2014. Their short life together was filled with happiness, despite the turbulence of sickness. They both had found and experienced true love for the very first time in their lives. They had beautiful times traveling, shared laughter, cried together and comforted each other to the very end. God put them together for a purpose and now He has taken him home to rest in peace.
He will forever be remembered as a provider and a protector, caring and encouraging. He was proud of taking care of his family and was always helpful to anyone in distress. He had a great sense of humor and was the life of any party.
He is survived by his loving wife Alma; son, Sheldon; daughters, Lorraine and Brittany; daughter-in-law, Crystal; sisters, Jennifer, Sandra, Cherryl, Arlene, and Debbie; brother, Conway and sister-in-law, Celia; several nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and many close friends.
