My grandmother was one of the kindest and most compassionate people I’ve ever known. She had a gentle and calm spirit that brought comfort to everyone around her. She loved spending time with her family—whether it was sharing a meal, singing together, or simply enjoying each other’s company. One of her greatest joys in life was seeing her family happy and together. I will always cherish her laughter and her calming voice, which could bring peace to any moment. She was always there to care for us and watch over our family. Her love, warmth, and presence will always be remembered and deeply missed.

I have many fond memories of my Abuela. She was kind, humble, and committed - I remember her cooking breakfast and dinner every day for her mother.

Abuela loved to sing to herself all the time. She would be perfectly content to just sit there, surrounded by family, relaxing while singing or humming a tune.

Many of my memories of her involve the things she would say or ask with her accent. In fact, one of my favorite accents to use when being silly is my "Abuela voice," which I learned from listening to her. Abuela was always offering things to us, and I remember her saying things like: "Tú quieres Ovaltine?" Or "Tú quieres cornflae?" (Cornflae means cornflakes).

Most important, I remember her deep love for Jehovah and His Word the Bible. She worked hard to live by Bible principles in her daily life. One of my most recent memories of her was when my family and I took her to the Kingdom Hall for a meeting. After it was over, she rushed around the hall to introduce herself to all the brothers and sisters, saying: "Hello, my brother. Hello, my sister."

She lived a long life, which I am thankful for. But she will be deeply missed. I look forward to the day when I can see her again according to the Bible's promise of a resurrection.

Madre, siempre recordaré tu sonrisa, tus frases divertidas, tus canciones y lo cariñosa y amorosa que fuiste conmigo y con mis hijos. Recordaré tus palabras de sabiduría y que siempre fuiste mi persona de confianza para aconsejarme, así como el hombro en el que podía llorar. Gracias por estar a mi lado en los momentos difíciles y en las luchas.

Lograste tantas cosas y fuiste un gran ejemplo para todos nosotros. Nunca te escuché quejarte, no te importaban las cosas materiales y tu prioridad siempre fue Jehová. Disfruté mucho cuando fuimos de crucero y todas las risas que compartimos. A veces nos reíamos de las experiencias más divertidas durante nuestras vacaciones.

Nunca olvidaré lo mucho que te gustaba escuchar música en el crucero y ver a Lucy, a mí y a todas las personas bailando. También disfrutaste mucho de las islas que visitamos, especialmente en México, donde compraste ese enorme sombrero de mariachi rojo.

Siempre te amaré y serás profundamente extrañada por todos los que tuvieron el privilegio de conocerte.

Tengo una gran esperanza de verte otra vez  en el hermoso paraíso.

A Loving Memory of My Mother

Mom, I will always cherish your warm smile, your funny sayings, and the way you sang with such joy. You were my constant source of wisdom, my go-to person for advice, and a comforting shoulder during life’s hardest moments. Your unwavering love and care for me and my children shaped our lives in the most beautiful way.

You lived with purpose and integrity—always putting Jehovah first and never complaining, no matter the challenge. Material things never mattered to you; what mattered was family, faith, and kindness. I’ll never forget our cruise together, laughing until our sides hurt at the funniest moments. You loved watching Lucy, me, and everyone dance, and your joy was contagious. The music, the islands, and especially that huge red mariachi hat you bought in Mexico—those memories shine brightly in my heart.

You were an example of strength, grace, and selflessness to us all. Thank you for being my rock through every struggle. I will carry your love with me always, and you will be deeply missed by everyone whose life you touched.

I love you, Mom. Until we meet again.

Alicia Cruz, having you in my life was the biggest blessing. I love you more than words can express, your power, your will, and your spirit is with me always, even now I still I hear you speaking to me and telling me to keep going, to persevere. You powerfully tell me that together our family is strong. You give me the fuel to continue living within love and you planted such a potent seed of love and adoration inside my heart. I will love you always and forever. I know you will walk along our side, and every day when I close my eyes I will feel you in the sunbeams, as you shine through the heavenly rays. Thank you, for everything, for the love, for spirit, and for being the driving energy that keeps our family together.

Grandma was always so kind to me growing up.  I remember reading to her when I was first learning how to read, and her teaching me how to tie my shoes.  She even once saved me from choking, doing the himelich maneuver on me, literally saving my life, then going back to doing dishes like it was no big deal.  She was so calm, funny and loving.  I'll miss the sound of her voice so much.

June 7, 1938 – October 15, 2025

It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Alicia Cruz, who was born on June 7, 1938, in Caguas, Puerto Rico. Alicia was a beautiful soul who brought light and love into the lives of everyone who had the honor of knowing her.

After marrying her devoted husband, Juan Cruz, the two began a new chapter of their lives in Hartford, Connecticut, where they raised three wonderful children — Luz (Lucy) Cruz, Ivette Cruz, and Samuel Cruz. Together, they built a strong and loving family rooted in faith, laughter, and unity.

Alicia’s home on Sisson Avenue became a gathering place filled with joy, comfort, and warmth. She had numerous friends and family members who cared deeply for her and would often check in or visit, knowing they would always be greeted with kindness, a warm smile, and perhaps even a comforting meal. She made everyone feel welcome — as if they were part of her own family.

Alicia had a heart of gold and a spirit that shined bright. She loved her family with all of her heart and devoted her life to nurturing, caring, and giving without ever expecting anything in return. Her love was unconditional, her laughter contagious, and her wisdom timeless.

As we say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing that those we love never truly leave us — they live on in the hearts and memories they’ve touched. Though Alicia is no longer with us in body, her presence will forever remain in spirit. Her love will continue to guide us, her voice will echo in our memories, and her warmth will never fade.

We believe that when someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure. Alicia’s life was a blessing, her memory a keepsake, and her love an everlasting gift. She now rests in eternal peace, reunited with her loved ones, watching over us with the same care and tenderness she showed throughout her life.

I went to visit mom and brought a game to test her memory and she did great. It was her first time playing, she remembered all the numbers and she won the Bingo game.

Mom and I were at a restaurant near Ocala, Florida. She enjoyed her meal very much.

I caught mom off guard singing her worship music when she attended a Jehovah’s Witness online meeting. She didn't know that I was recording her.

I asked mom to sing me a song and this is the song she decided to sing. A song about her home land, which was always dear to her.

Lucy and I took mom out to eat at a Mexican restaurant and she loved her food. As soon as we got there it started pouring rain outside and we got soaked. We waited for it to slow down then we took mom out the car. Mom never fussed about anything she was happy to go out to eat.

Mom and I took a long ride to a restaurant with a lake view at the Villages in Florida. She enjoyed  eating out at restaurants.

I’ll never forget the first time you held Jaylen in your arms. The way your eyes lit up and the pure joy that spread across your face is something I’ll always carry with me. Every time you saw him, that same happiness would shine through. a quiet, tender love that needed no words. You were such a kind and gentle soul, always giving warmth and comfort to everyone around you. You were deeply loved, and your presence will forever be felt in the love you shared with all of us.
