Our Mom, Caro, known to many of her friends as Carolyn, passed away peacefully just days after her 99th birthday. Although born in Louisville, Kentucky, she did not remember the city and claimed Atlanta as her home. It was there she met and married our father Norman Edison Jett April 1st, 1947. Together they had three children, Norma Heidt Jett Gregory, Robert Heidt Jett, and John Heidt Jett. Sadly, we lost Bob in 2021, but Norma and John and our families survive her.
Caro was a happy and active child. She gleefully recounted tales of running from her Atlanta home to Sears where she would drink from the artesian well. Time spent with family in Auburndale, FL found her plucking ripe oranges for a snack and playing with cousins in the family owned hotel.
When the Jett family moved to Alexandria, VA, Caro became an active member of St. Lukes Episcopal Church. She was Room Mother for many of our classrooms, and also helped the community by driving children with Cerebral Palsy to school. She and Daddy enjoyed an active social life and made lifelong friends.
A few years after the death of our father in 1978, Mother moved to Nokomis, FL and began work for the American Red Cross. There, she met wonderful new friends and her social life blossomed again. She re-adopted her childhood name, Caro, and remarried. She and new husband, Skid, enjoyed traveling and getting together with friends. They were active in MOAA of Sarasota and Nokomis Methodist Church where Mother served on the Altar Guild and read scripture during services. She enjoyed her volunteer work with Sarasota Fine Arts and The Van Wezel Museum in Sarasota.
After Skid’s death in 1995, Mother continued to travel with her besties traveling to England, Spain, and Australia, even taking an African Safari. Her traveling days came to a halt, though, when she suffered a stroke in 2009. It left her far less mobile and unable to communicate. She could no longer live at home. She was in the care of John and Norma until her death.
We are ever so grateful for the loving care Mother received while she was in Assisted Living and for the humanitarian support and care she received from Hospice.
She will be sorely missed by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
