Clark, I have thought about you a lot for the past few years since you told me about your diagnosis. Never sure if you were winning or losing and honestly what either really meant. The fact is you ultimately won as you are where we all want to be some day. You won as you "experienced" life vs just living life or riding through it. You won another year with your family as I think you told me the Dr's. gave you a year at the time of diagnosis. You won as you faced so many hurdles in life and were able to get over them, around them or in fact whatever you needed to do to get past them. I am, however, sorry to say that it is WE who won as WE got to know you, experience life through your eyes and enjoy all of your characteristics... to Pierce's note (hey Pierce) I was one of those Mid-western boys at Taylor and as your Senior year roommate I recall often watching you and wondering-- WHAT??? Then, after graduation things got even more crazy as I recall my trip to Tampa where in short you and your entourage scared the crap out of me…even as I knew you had my back.

Watching you go from those days to the Husband/Father/Executive you became was, in short, impressive.

Well, one last thing to say is— "I’ll see you later",  because as Christians we never really have to say goodbye.

Clark Rest In Peace my friend in Gods kingdom.  You rose to the top of your field as a devoted husband and father.  You were the auto industry’s answer with the brilliance you brought to our industry.
Marina our condolences to you and your sons.  Thinking of all of you in these sad times.  


which does happen when people move into adulthood. New families and new lives separated us and that does happen, but I do blame myself for allowing it to. I think of all we experienced together and the impact we had on each other’s lives and I can’t think of another person that had as much as an impact on mine. I’d like to think the same of myself because you finally took my advice after years of prodding you to get into sales. I remember calling you the Chameleon because of your innate ability to connect with anyone from all walks of life. You didn’t see it for so long and yet you ended up having a successful career. I always knew you would, you had that gift. I’m sure heaven is blessed to have you and your castle is one of the most popular spots to be. I am so thankful you found your career, found your wife, and you two built a great loving family together.  

So you won this round, but I’m sure we’ll have some friendly competitions in the next life where everyone wins. Still can’t believe you beat me, since I’ve been on death’s door 3 times with my own health battles, and yet you’re there and I’m here, and of that I’m certain, as Paul also said in Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this very thing, that he who has begun a work in you WILL complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” That day for you is now you lucky dog. Writing this I also remember you telling me I was the smartest but most stubborn person you ever knew. Well, I guess he’s not finished me with me yet, so Lord have your way. Whatever estranged us will be healed so until then know that I’ve missed you, I love you, and you’ll always be my brother. And when the Lord is ready for me I look forward to you showing me the ropes of eternal life as you did so often in this earthly one. I will see you again soon my friend. 

Pierce Kuhn

and there weren’t too many times during those formative years we didn’t check in with that the other was doing. DICC trips, working at BeMac during the summer, are meeting with Camaron under the bush at the wall, we had so much time together we became brothers. We fought like brothers, argued like brothers, and fought together like brothers. Yet nothing was as significant as you having my parents over to talk about getting me the kind of help that you had gotten. I was the one person you helped get into Straight and it changed both of our lives together. We went through it, and we also worked as counselors together there. If it wasn’t for you, I might have ended up dead or in jail and it was you that helped saved me from going down further that treacherous path we were both headed on. And the result was we learned together, grew together, and helped many people together. Numerous times people have said on forums are to me personally that Pierce and Clark helped save their lives and if wasn’t for us, they wouldn’t have made it. Because of that I got to meet the First Lady, appear on national television, and learned things I never would’ve had the opportunity to learn without you. We also deprogrammed together, roomed at Taylor together, trained like madmen for football together, and of course worked at Confetti together. I remember fondly all the beach trips, almost freezing to death driving in Indiana in -30 degree weather rocking out to Ted Nugent to keep our blood moving or making sure we didn’t miss the Tyson fight or suffering in the freezing cold in our dorm room watching Letterman every night or chasing each other having a dart fight freaking out the other students. We tested every extreme together. We danced with the devil and sang praises to the Lord. We shared everything, in so many ways, love, pain, laughter, and so much fun. All the road trips to the east coast, Orlando, you name it. And then life took us on different paths, (to be continued)

To Mike, Matt, and Dee Dee, my sincerest condolences. You were Clark’s anchor and a big part of him becoming the successful man he became. My heart bleeds for you now and I ask God to grant you a piece of the love Clark’s now experiencing with God and your Mom and Dad. 

To Marina, I have a slight understanding of what you’re going through, but I know it can feel unbearable. I know many are praying for you and your family as I have but I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank you. You were Clark’s rock. May the Lord bless you with the peace that goes beyond all understanding during this time and the time that follows.

Please forgive the personal nature of the rest of this message which I’m choosing to write to Clark instead of about him.

Dear Clark, 

You won, you beat me, at the biggest race of all. All of our silly competitions and now you’ve won the big one. You’re in heaven and the rest of us are stuck down on earth at a world that seems to get crazier and worse by the minute. As the apostle Paul clearly states in Philippians 1:21, to die is to gain. You’re out of pain, your health is restored, and you’re experiencing the best of life, eternal life with God where there is nothing but love and a place built just for you. All of us on earth are still on our journey while yours is complete. Yep, you won the big one. I reference your victory because of two things, it is a victory and also the past six days I’ve done nothing much other than reflecting on our time we spent together. In fact, I spent more time with you than any other human outside of family. From running into you in 3rd grade and us walking home bleeding to Junior High trying to get our brothers to allow us to go to the high school parties, then as Sophomores we were the kids that hung out with the Seniors. For so many years we thought we were the coolest cats in town and you know what, for a few years we were. From early teens to almost mid 20s we were joined at the hip,  (to be continued)

Clark is, was, and always will be a dear friend. From grade school to high school, college life to adulthood, Clark was a part of my life. His college psychology major evolved into a philosophy PhD in my many conversations with him. I will cherish of all of them.

His entire family is a huge influence in who I am — so Clark, so are you a part me. I will miss your presence on this earth, but look for you in the next. By then, you’ll have figured everything out — and I’ll need your help. Miss you and love you. — Ben

Clark was an outstanding man. A great father, husband, brother ....all those things and more. To me, he was simply a wonderful friend. He showed others( including me) , how to be selfless , how to always be there for those in need and he did not just talk.
He lived his life that way. Kind, thoughtful, eager to give a listening ear . He was truly a man’s man and set an example not just on how to live but how to die . A couple weeks ago we went fishing .I can still see his big smile and I can still hear his laughter as he reeled in one fish after another. He faced his disease with courage and fought to stay with his family as long as he could .
He never hung his head and instead, was so very grateful that God blessed him with such a good life and loving family. I hope his boys realize how much he relished his role as a father . I know Marina and the rest of his loved ones felt his unconditional love as well.
I believe death ends a life but never a relationship. Clark and his precious friendship will be in my heart until my last breath. May the entire Wichman family be blessed with strength and the ability to endure such an enormous loss. Steve Yerrid

I have many great memories of Clark during his late teen years and early 20's.  I drew closest to Clark in Upland, Indiana as one of his roommates in dorm #226 in Wengatz Hall on the fairly small campus of Taylor University.  Clark, Pierce and me, three Florida boys really stood out on a campus made up of so many kids from Indiana, Chicago, Ohio, and other northern states.  We loved it and we had a blast at times! I  remember walking to the dinner hall with Clark one night after a massive snow fall.  There were blizzard conditions and the snow was so deep we struggled to make the walk and were laughing the entire way.  Talk about feeling out of place! So many terms can be used to describe Clark at that time but the primary ones that come to mind are kind, funny, and thoughtful.  Clark could be impulsive at times, but almost always his motives and outcomes ended up being good.  I know he loved his family incredibly much.  I look forward to seeing him again in heaven.  Prayers to all the Wichman family, both close and extended.

I was in church back in 1980 and to my surprise Clark was a guest speaker that day. I was so impressed with how much he had changed, I decided that same day to do the same. If it wasn’t for Clarks speech, which was so moving, I would not be sober today. He was so full or charisma. Although we drifted apart decades ago like so many childhood friendships do, the impact he had on my life is immeasurable. Some incredible memories with him - got the Confetti job together, worked spring break together in 1985 at the Confetti in Ft Lauderdale. Although his life was cut way too short, the impact he had on so many people, far outweighed his years spent here on Earth.

He was predeceased by his parents, Robert Henry and Claire Johnson Wichman. He is survived by his wife and soulmate of 26 years, Marina Perez Wichman; children, Luke Wichman and Clark Wichman; brothers Michael Wichman (Kendall), Matthew Wichman (Julie), sister Merideth Claire Cann “Dee Dee”, and several nieces and nephews.
