

He was born on July 27, 1931 at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, DC.
Don was the son of Kenneth George Gould Sr., M.D., and Helen Wehmann Gould. As the son of an Air Force flight surgeon, Don lived in several states in his early life before his family settled in Tampa, Florida for his middle school and high school years. He graduated from H.B. Plant High School in 1949 and received his BA in Business and Economics from Duke University in 1953. After college, Don started work in Pittsburgh but shortly returned to Tampa to make it his permanent home. He began work in Tampa as a Development Officer for the University of South Florida and then transitioned into banking as a loan officer with Tampa Federal. Don went on to work for MGIC, Mortgage Guaranty Insurance Corporation for 22 years as a Vice-President of the South Atlantic Region.
Don met the love of his life, Mary Catherine Hill, while vacationing at Indian Rocks beach, and they married on July 4, 1958, in Newnan, Georgia. Don and Mary Catherine were devoted to each other for over 65 years, building a life with children, friends, travel, golf and countless memories.
Don’s many interests’ included traveling, golfing, Duke basketball, Tampa Bay Bucs football and spending time at the beach with his family. He also loved his annual reunions with his SAE fraternity brothers. However, his true passion was working with Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church, its Covenant Circle, and its men’s group Followers of the Way.
Don was an active member of Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church for 77 years, serving as both an Elder and a teacher, sharing his faith and wisdom. His commitment to his community extended through his memberships at Palma Ceia Golf and Country Club, Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla, Merrymakers Club and the Tampa Rotary Club. He was also a devoted member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and was a proud Founder member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation.
Don leaves behind a legacy of love, survived by his wife, Mary Catherine Hill Gould; his brother, Kenneth G. Gould Jr., M.D.; sister-in-law, Harriet Hill Bentley; daughter, Susanne Gould Uncapher (Kenneth); son, Donald W. Gould Jr. (Tiffany); grandchildren, Laura Uncapher Garcia (Roger), Emily Uncapher Bass (Austin), Ansley Gould, and Haile Gould; and three great-grandchildren, all who will miss him dearly.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church’s Followers of the Way or H.B. Plant High School Academic Foundation.
A memorial service for Don will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church, 3501 West San Jose Street, Tampa, Florida.
