Elena M. Hernandez

Elena Hernandez was the beautiful daughter of Guadalupe and Maria de Jesus Hernandez Martinez and was born on February 16, 1944, in San Antonio, Texas. Elena had been a Tampa resident since 1976 living the Air Force life for 20 years with her husband, Juan, from San Antonio Texas. Both traveled the world together and especially loved finding casinos. She was the proud employee of Revlon for over 10 years, and then decided to spend all her time helping raise her grandchildren. Elena was most proud of her grandchildren. She happily taught them old family recipes and traditions that will be passed to the future generations. Two favorite memories are the famous Easter Egg Hunts with a few special eggs with money and making Christmas cookies at Grandma’s house every year.

Elena is survived by her family as follows: Her devoted husband, Juan Jr., daughters, Mona (Stephen) Cohen and Grace (Frank) Register, brother in-law Robert (Deborah) Hernandez, whom she considered a son, her Grandchildren, Elissa Register, Zackary Register, Lauren Cohen, Julia Register, Benjamin Cohen and her Sisters & Brother, Alice (Louie) Castano, Yolanda (Gary) Modrow, Elvia (David) Cervantes, Santos F. Martinez, Jr., and Elizabeth Garza.

She is preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Pedro Martinez, Santos (Juanita) Martinez, Benita Ramos, Angelica Mata, Maria L. Martinez, Rosa Maria Lopez, and great nephew, Erik Maldonado.

Elena was the centerpiece of the family and will be truly missed.

A funeral is scheduled for 4:00 PM November 12th at Blount & Curry Funeral Home-MacDill Chapel, 605 S. MacDill Ave. Tampa, FL 33609. Deacon Haber will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Elena’s life. The family will receive guests at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice at Volunteers and Donors | Chapters Health Foundation. The family would like to thank Melech Hospice House Autumn Wing staff for their wonderful care and dedication.

Burial is scheduled for 9:00 AM November 15th at Bay Pines National Cemetery, 10000 Bay Pines Blvd, St. Petersburg, FL 33744.
