Ellen Jane McMulkin (nee Newton), age 86, passed away August 31, 2025 in Tampa, Florida. She was born in Port Jefferson, NY and lived on Long Island until she retired to North Carolina and eventually Florida.
She was married to her childhood sweetheart, Robert, for 65 years until he passed in 2022.They are survived by their three children Deborah Zerillo (James), Cathleen Alaimo, and Sean McMulkin (Tara). She was Gram to several grandchildren and Granny Ellen to many great grandchildren.
Ellen was a medical office manager for over 40 years and an avid quilt maker. She hated to cook but was an excellent baker. When visiting her, you could always be sure there were chocolate chip cookies in her cookie jar. She loved the adventure of traveling and visited Spain, Paris, South America and Hawaii many times. But her favorite trip was to drive around Ireland to discover her heritage and to see the Cliffs of Mohr.
Ellen had an infectious laugh and found the humor in everything. She said she always got in trouble when she was younger for giggling in church with her sisters and cousins. She was a working mom before it was fashionable who always made it seem easy and never missed her children’s events. She was the rock we all relied upon. She will be greatly missed.
