

Gene’s family moved to Tampa in his teens and he attended Jesuit and Plant High schools and then the University of Florida where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. After college, he joined the US Army and was stationed in Berlin, Germany. He spent his career in wholesale pharmaceuticals and drug store management. In 1958, he married the love of his life, Cay Cody, who he first met in the eleventh grade. They were married for 65 years.
He was always known as “Spinner” to his old friends and Gene to his newer friends. Gene loved boating, sailing, fishing and golfing. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at their vacation cabin in the North Carolina mountains. He was also an avid amateur photographer, reader and lifelong learner. In 2004, he and Cay retired and enjoyed traveling and spending time with their children and grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Louise and sister Barbara. He is survived by his wife, Cay, a daughter, Lori (Ron) Bishop, a son, Cody, a grandson, David (Sarah) Clark and two great granddaughters, Evelyn “Evie” and Violet.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on March 16, 2023 at Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 605 S. MacDill Avenue, Tampa, FL 33609. Private burial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Gene’s name to the Alzheimer's Association.
