It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the loss of our beloved Jeanine Aida Ivone, 56, who passed away on January 23, 2023, at her home in Valrico, FL. Jeanine was born on July 18, 1966, in Miami, FL. She moved to Tampa, FL, to attend the University of South Florida, where she graduated with her undergraduate degree in English and later a master’s degree in Linguistics. Post-graduation, in addition to teaching English as a Second Language courses at USF, Jeanine also co-authored several textbooks on ESL and Speaking Fluency, such as “First Discussion Starters: Speaking Fluency Activities for Lower-Level ESL/EFL Students” and “101 Clear Grammar Tests: Reproducible Grammar Tests for ESL/EFL Classes.” Jeanine was a stellar writer who cared about language, but more importantly, she cared about teaching language to others with kindness and empathy.
Jeanine was passionate about her career as a court reporter and was a perfectionist who spent countless hours making sure everything was done properly and turned in before it was due. Jeanine leaves behind many adoring coworkers at Mills Reporting and the Hillsborough Public Defender’s office, including Diane, Tommie, and Robin, who will miss her fervor and passion for court reporting, her homemade birthday cakes, as well as her kind heart. Near her office in Tampa, Jeanine was known to feed the homeless and food insecure individuals whom she considered friends. This regular occurrence was an outward expression of her generosity, thoughtfulness, and caring spirit because she “walked the walk.” She didn’t just talk about doing good things, she actually did good things, which is admirable and worthy of praise.
Jeanine loved football, but specifically and with zeal, she loved the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and she was eager to talk about the Bucs at every chance she could. Jeanine was a season ticket holder for many years, and if there ever were a contest to nominate the #1 most passionate Bucs fan, it would be Jeanine, no doubt about it. She admired Mike Alstott for his tenacity and contributions to the team, and Derrick Brooks because he was a soft-spoken leader who put the community first. The Bucs brought Jeanine immense joy over the years, and even during rough seasons, she stood by her team with unwavering loyalty, as one would expect from the #1 Bucs fan.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, being out on the water, and experiencing new things, like spending a weekend in New Orleans during Mardi Gras with her niece, in awe of the all the colors and joy that a parade can offer, despite her reasonable distaste for the New Orleans Saints. Family milestones were extremely important to Jeanine, and she made sure to attend them no matter the distance, including her nephew Elias Chajet’s wedding to his wife, Michelle, in Texas, and Ben Chajet’s graduation from graduate school at Barry University in Miami, FL.
As a person with both passion and an intense sense of empathy, Jeanine was also subject to depression, which she courageously battled for the majority of her life. Unfortunately, despite trying every treatment and therapy imaginable, she was unable to continue the fight. Jeanine was predeceased by her mother, Louise Ivone, her father, Fred Ivone, Sr., her brother, Fred Ivone, Jr., and his beloved dog Buddy. She is survived by her sister, Nancy Chajet (Henry), her niece, Jennifer Higgins, her nephew, Elias Chajet (Michelle), and her nephew, Ben Chajet, as well as lifelong friends, Linda Babok, Marilyn Babok, Barry Babok, and Stevie Blonde.
We will forever hold Jeanine in our hearts and remember the joy and love she brought into our lives. While extremely saddened by her passing, we find a semblance of comfort knowing that she is now at peace.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations made in Jeanine’s honor to Faith Farm Ministries, where her brother Fred received wonderful care and support during his life.
According to her wishes, Jeanine will be cremated, and her ashes will be scattered at Haulover Inlet, a favorite fishing spot of her brother and father. The family will hold a private memorial at a to be determined date.
