

Joan P. Sargent passed away peacefully in her home under the care of Hospice on April 15, 2026. A long-time resident of Tampa, Joan was a wonderful, friendly, and generous person. Joan was an active member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Tampa, Florida. Her steadfast faith in Christ remained a beacon of light throughout her lifetime.
She was an RN and a volunteer at Tampa General Hospital for almost 50 years. She enjoyed drawing icons and traveled frequently to New Orleans for instruction and learning to improve her skills. She took lessons on both the violin and harp and believed in lifelong learning in everything for everyone. She gave generously of her time, resources, and talent to numerous charities. Her life was a beautiful story of resilience, love and generosity, and her memory will forever live in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Richard C. Sargent, her parents, Joseph J. Mazur and Irene (Trzonkowski) Mazur; twin brother and sister, Joseph J. Mazur and Janice Wegren; and her close friend who was like family to her, Daniel O’Neal III. She is survived by her brother, Thomas Mazur, nieces, Joni Love, Carrie Chambers, Kimberly Papi, Michelle Bocan and Sheila Higley, and nephews, Joseph Mazur and Andrew Traver.
A Celebration of Life with a reception to follow will be held at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, located at 4311 W San Miguel Street in Tampa, Florida, on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 2:00 P.M.
