John Bullock Hampton, MD, age 96, a cherished Tampa native and a lifelong resident, died peacefully in his sleep at home on November 30, 2025. Born at home on August 31, 1929, he was delivered by his father, Dr. Ham Stonewall Hampton. John continued a proud family legacy, attending Emory University where he earned both his undergraduate and medical degrees. From 1956-1958, he served as a physician in the USAF, achieving the rank of Captain. A respected third-generation physician in Tampa, he dedicated over 50 years to practicing Internal Medicine, joining his brother, Dr. Hiram Phillip Hampton, in practice at 1 Davis Boulevard on Davis Islands. He was known to all his patients as a wonderful and caring doctor.

He was a member of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla, Merrymakers, Tampa Yacht and Country Club, and a devoted member of Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church. He was an avid collector and had a passion for gardening. Growing a variety of plants, including orchids, yellow tabebuia, and live oak trees, which can be spotted all over town.

John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, recognized for his sweet smile and kind spirit. He shared over 70 beautiful years of marriage with the love of his life, Jennie Lu Reale, whom he married in 1955.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Jennie Lu, and their four children: Kim Powers (Frank), Scott Hampton (Elizabeth), Reale Hampton (Anne) & Mark Hampton. He delighted in spending time with his grandchildren: Frank Powers (Heather), Pike Powers (Melissa), Allison Meli Barkes (Matt), Sarah Hampton, John Hampton (Kinga), Rachel Hampton; and great-grandchildren: Blake Powers, Caroline Powers, Emma Grace Powers, Maddie Powers, Luke Powers, David Moody, Ethan Luther, Lukasz Hampton and Krystian Hampton and many dear nieces and nephews.

We will be forever grateful to Raquel Aubert and his recent wonderful and kind caregivers: Fran, Letticia, JoAnna, Audrey and Melissa, & Socrates.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in John’s name to Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church, 3501 W. San Jose St., Tampa, FL 33629, or your charity of choice.
