Jonathan Carroll Overman (42) passed away at his home on Davis Islands where he resided with his wife Kristin Jeanette Ford on December 17th, 2023. He leaves behind his nine-year-old son, Isaiah Herman Overman, who is being raised by Jonathan’s mother, Kimberly Overman.
Jonathan was born May 21, 1981, at Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, Maryland. Jonathan was the youngest child of Kimberly Dianne Ellis Overman and Kenny Franklin Overman, brother to Jeremiah Franklin Overman and uncle to his niece Ellis Elizabeth Overman, six years old, and nephew Oliver Franklin Overman, three years old.
When Jonathan was three years old, he and his family moved to Davis Islands in Tampa, Florida. During his childhood, Jonathan grew up playing baseball and soccer where he was known as "Big Leg" because he could kick the ball the farthest. Sports were a big part of Jonathan's young life as he excelled with the Bayshore Little League, InterBay Soccer League, and Davis Islands Yacht Club Youth Sailing Program. When he wasn't playing sports, he skateboarded and enjoyed his friends on the island. Jonathan always had a big group of friends. He was bright, friendly, and charismatic. His family frequently sailed and raced as a family sailing team where Jonathan took charge of the foredeck. He was strong, tall, lightweight, and absolutely fearless.
Jonathan attended Sea Born Preschool, Gorrie Elementary, Wilson Middle School, and Plant High School. After high school, Jonathan moved to Atlanta, Georgia, joining his friends who were going to college there. He worked as a server at Maggiano's Little Italy Restaurant in Buckhead. Jonathan moved back to Tampa with several goals, to start college, to work with Maggiano's when they opened a location in Tampa, and to pursue direct sales with a local promotional brands company.
At age 20, Jonathan suffered a catastrophic car accident that nearly took his life. By sheer will and determination, he survived with the help of the spectacular trauma doctors and nurses at Tampa General Hospital. Without a doubt, the amazing Tampa Fire Rescue, Tampa Police Department, and local residents who saved his life while risking their own to keep him alive played a critical role until the TGH medical team could take over. After Jonathan regained consciousness from his coma, he had to learn to talk and walk and suffered an endless stream of surgeries to restore his face and his body. He then spent years in rehabilitation to restore his cognitive function.
There were three parts to Jonathan's life on Davis Islands. One part was from birth until he was twenty, the middle part was years of physical recovery, and the last part of his life adjusting to the changes in his abilities, hopes, and dreams. Despite the later challenges, the basic framework remained the same. Jonathan was strong, fiercely determined, and full of passion. He fought through his injuries, he fought for his independence, and he fought for his big dreams. He became an entertainment producer, producing a movie and backing several friends in the music business. He was driven and overflowing with love. He adored his son, Isaiah, and his wife, Kristin. He loved his family and friends too numerous to mention but you all know who you are. Jonathan had a giving heart and strove to be there for his friends and anyone who he thought he could help. Deeply spiritual, he believed in God and loved God. He did his best to live by the Ten Commandments and the teachings of Jesus.
Jonathan was a most unique and wonderful man. He will be missed by so many. He left us all way too soon. This world has lost a very loving, kind individual. Rest in peace Jonathan Carroll Overman and Vaya con Dios (Go With God)!
