The plan is for Mr. and Mrs. Horner to be laid to rest together at Arlington National Cemetery next Spring during cherry blossom season.
Mr. Horner was a longtime resident of Tampa, settling here after having been listed as MIA during WWII. He had been a POW of the Japanese for 3 years. Upon his reintroduction to civilian life he was offered a partnership with four friends from New Orleans who were involved with making Aluminum Jalousie windows for new home construction. It didn’t take long for him to realize the potential and when offered to buy them out, he did so for $800. This then, became his original company TamBay; which he later changed to NuAir Manufacturing Company. The company existed until the Fall of 2008, when it was lost due to the events surrounding the recession. Mr. Horner spent the next two years writing a memoir of his time in the POW camp which was self-published thru Amazon. It is entitled: MIA: MISSING IN ACTION by Kenneth “Jack” Horner, he was 94 when it was completed. Having become legally blind, he lived out his life quietly with his wife Conchita Vega Horner, who predeceased him in 2014, continuing with his daughter Connie in St. Petersburg until his passing.
