On February 8, 2025, at the age of 94, Lino Perera passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. Lino was married for 71 years to Eva Whitaker, who preceded him in death on February 6, 2023. He was born and raised in West Tampa along with his three brothers, Rene Perera, Sergio Perera, and NRA (Rey) Perera all of whom predeceased Lino.
He joined the Merchant Marines at a tender age as a cook, but his primary career was as an NCO in the United States Air Force from which he retired in 1974 after 24 years of service. During his service, he and his family were stationed all over the U.S. and overseas in Japan and Germany. He retired in Tucson, AZ, but missed his hometown, so he returned to Tampa to live out the remainder of his life.
Lino's focus in retirement was his wife, his home where he lived for 50 years and his yard. He enjoyed watching college and professional sports and his grandchildren's sporting events and activities. He was a person who stayed engaged in the news and what was happening in the world.
Lino is survived by his children Sandy Heiser (Jim), Linda Bell (Mike), and Richard Perera (Kathy). In addition to his brothers, he is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his daughter, Teresa Beard (Clif). He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces who will miss him.
Lino was a loving husband, a great father and grandfather. He loved his family and we loved him. He will be sorely missed by us all.
A visitation for Lino will be held Thursday, February 20, 2025 from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Gonzalez Funeral Home, 7209 North Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa, FL 33614.
