Miguelina Milagros Harmon

Miguelina (or Mama, as she was known to everyone) was born in the Dominican Republic to Jose and Angelica Tapia Moquete on the 15th of April, 1931. Her parents died while she was a child. Circumstances prohibited her from attending school past the third grade. She married Jose Perez, a shoe cobbler and had three children, Fernando, Berky, and Jose. In 1963, she immigrated to the United States and settled in Washington Heights, New York City, NY. In downtown Manhattan, she worked with pride as a seamstress. She met and married John Calvin Harmon, the love of her life, and they had her fourth child, Juan. In 1975 the family moved to Camden, New Jersey where she continued to work until retirement in 2001. Upon John’s death, Miguelina lived with her son, Juan and his wife Indra in North Carolina, and then later in Virginia.

As a matriarch, Miguelina nourished the lives of her family and multitudes. While in New York, Miguelina looked after her granddaughter, Patricia, as well as Angelica and Bianca throughout their youth. Miguelina loved dearly Angelica’s eldest son, RJ. Throughout the fifteen years she lived with Juan and Indra, she helped raise the couple’s two boys, Juancito and Miguel. Upon Juan’s reassignment to Germany in 2017, Miguelina relocated to Tampa, Florida with her granddaughter, Angelica. Here, too, she helped raise her beloved grandson, Christopher.

A follower of Jesus, she served God; from her own share of love, she gratefully served her friends and family. Every morning and evening she prayed and read aloud Psalm 91. She believed in hard work. She bore witness to the fruits of her labor.

Miguelina is preceded in death by: John Calvin Harmon, her loving husband; her sisters Amada and Nereida, and her brother Ramon.

Miguelina is survived by: her children, Fernando, Berky, Jose and Juan; her grandchildren, Angelica, Priscilla, John, Bianca, Natalia, Juan, Miguel, Asia, Amber, Orlando, Fernando, Joseph, Sierra, Asia and Yuena; her great-grandchildren, RJ, Christopher, Paola, Kenneth, Johniel, Jeniel, Jose, Christian, Charles, CJ and Giancarlo.

The memorial service will be held at 9117 Moonlit Meadows Loop Riverview, FL 33578 at 1:00PM on the 7th of May, 2022.

Miguelina (o Mamá, como todos la conocían) nació en la República Dominicana de José y Angélica Tapia Moquete el 15 de abril de 1931. Sus padres murieron cuando ella era una niña. Las circunstancias le prohibieron asistir a la escuela después del tercer grado. Se casó con José Pérez, un zapatero y tuvo tres hijos, Fernando, Berky y José. En 1963 emigró a los Estados Unidos y se instaló en Washington Heights, Nueva York, NY. En el centro de Manhattan, trabajaba con orgullo como costurera. Conoció y se casó con John Calvin Harmon, el amor de su vida, y tuvieron a su cuarto hijo, Juan. En 1975, la familia se mudó a Camden, Nueva Jersey, donde continuó trabajando hasta su jubilación en 2001. Tras la muerte de John, Miguelina vivió con su hijo Juan y su esposa Indra en Carolina del Norte y luego en Virginia.

Como matriarca, Miguelina enriqueció la vida de su familia y multitudes. Mientras estuvo en Nueva York, Miguelina cuidó de su nieta, Patricia, así como de Angélica y Bianca durante su juventud. Miguelina amaba mucho al hijo mayor de Angélica, RJ. A lo largo de los quince años que vivió con Juan e Indra, ayudó a criar a los dos hijos de la pareja, Juancito y Miguel. Tras la reasignación de Juan a Alemania en 2017, Miguelina se mudó a Tampa, Florida con su nieta, Angélica. Aquí también ayudó a criar a su amado nieto, Christopher.

Seguidora de Jesús, sirvió a Dios; su amor y generosidad fueron el lenguaje para sus amigos y familiares. Cada mañana y tarde rezaba y leía en voz alta el Salmo 91. Creía en el trabajo duro y dio testimonio de los frutos de su labor.

A Miguelina le precedieron en la muerte: John Calvin Harmon, su amado esposo; sus hermanas Amada y Nereida, y su hermano Ramón.

A Miguelina le sobreviven: sus hijos, Fernando, Berky, José y Juan; sus nietos Angélica, Priscilla, John, Bianca, Natalia, Juan, Miguel, Asia, Amber, Orlando, Fernando, Joseph, Sierra, Asia y Yuena; sus bisnietos, RJ, Christopher, Paola, Kenneth, Jothniel, Jeniel, Jose, Christian, Charles, CJ y Giancarlo.
