Patricia Anne Oliver, 63, of Tampa, Florida, passed away on November 13, 2025, after a brave but brief battle with cancer. Patti was a loving and devoted wife to her husband, Rex; the best sister anyone could ask for to Penny and Jim; and an amazing cat mom to Calvin and Hobbes.
Born on January 4, 1962, she was the youngest child of the late Julia Anne McLoughlin (nee Dillon) and the late James Vincent McLoughlin of Garden City, New York, Patti leaves behind a legacy of vitality and generosity that touched the lives of many.
After Patti graduated from Garden City High School, she went on to study at St. John’s University, College of Business Administration in Jamaica, New York. After graduating with a degree in business in 1985, she worked at American International Group, New York, as an assistant underwriting manager in the management training program kickstarting a long career in Insurance. Patti went on to work at Johnson & Higgins as an Assistant Vice President in Commercial and Financial Institution new business and Willis Corroon Corporation of New York as a Vice President specializing in Directors and Officers Liability. A job offer in Bermuda was too good for Patti to pass up, so she moved to Hamilton, Bermuda. in the ‘90s and worked for XL Insurance as a Vice President, underwriting Lawyers Professional liability, Directors and Officers liability, and Employment Practices liability. It is in Bermuda where she met her future husband, Rex Oliver, cousin of Jim Gray, Patti’s co-worker. Most recently, Patti was a Commercial Line Account Manager at Brown & Brown, Inc., a job she truly enjoyed.
Patti embraced life with passion and joy. She was known for her zest for life, independence and love of prankster activity. She was an excellent golfer and also loved bridge, skiing, and traveling to Europe and the Caribbean with her family. Rex and Patti loved cheering on the Tampa Bay Lightning and Buccaneers, and she remained a fan of the NY Mets and Giants as a result of her New York upbringing. A love of Disney and the happiest place on earth also consumed much of their life early in their marriage. Holidays were always super special to Patti.
A devoted member of Tampa’s Sacred Heart Church, Patti was a co-founder of the Women’s Prayer Group and faithfully led the evening prayer gatherings, guiding others in deepening their relationship with God. Her faith was truly the cornerstone of her life—steady, humble, and unwavering. Patti’s compassion and devotion extended far beyond the walls of the church. She was dedicated to serving others, which led her to become an active member of the Sacred Heart Outreach Committee, supporting the homeless through Hands of Hope. She also played a vital role in the parish’s Giving from the Heart events, benefiting mothers in need through Foundations of Life. Patti lived her faith through action, embodying Christ’s love in all she did.
She also worked as a substitute teacher for many years in Tampa and enjoyed coaching girls basketball with her husband.
Patti’s passing leaves a hole in the hearts of those who had the privilege to call her wife, sister, family, or friend. Many will carry her memory forward, but none so much as her surviving family. She is survived by her husband, Rex, sister Penny Deming (David) of Menlo Park, Ca. and brother Jim McLoughlin (Mady) of Maywood, NJ, Aunt Loretta and many cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 509 N Florida Avenue Tampa, Fl 33602 on Tuesday, December 9 at 10am. Family and friends are invited to gather together from 12 – 2pm at Palma Ceia Golf & Country Club, 1601 S MacDill Avenue, Tampa, FL 33629.
