Patrick Francis Paleveda Sr., age 94, died Wednesday, January 4, 2017, in Tampa, FL. He was born December 13, 1922 to Nicholas and Magdalen Paleveda. He was a native of Tampa and proud graduate of Jesuit High School who served as a pilot in the US Army Air Corps during World War II. While stationed in Chattanooga, Tennessee, he met the love of his life, Mary Helen. They were married for 56 years until her death in 2002. Pat retired from the printing business, having been the co-owner of Paleveda Printing Company for 50 years. He also served as an auxiliary deputy for the Hillsbrough County Sheriff's Department.
Pat loved music and played several instruments, but singing was his passion. He was a member of his church choir for over 50 years and also performed with his siblings in their band, "The Senior Moments." He was ahead of his time as a husband and father. He was a true life partner to Mary Helen and did not shy away from trimming bangs or washing dishes. Pat was a kind and compassionate man who laughed easily and was quick to sing a song. He was always willing to give his time and energy to help others and he will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his children: Patrick Paleveda Jr. (Judy), Helen Wehle (Joseph), Jean Shaw, Katherine Tomas (Omar), Robin Merkel (George), and Matthew Paleveda. He had ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sisters: Anna Mary Engle, Magdalen Sultenfuss, and Ethel Cushen, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers: Joseph, Nicholas, and James Paleveda.
The family wishes to thank the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital for the outstanding care given to Pat, especially during his final days.
