Born on March 27, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, Paul grew up with a boundless curiosity that shaped both his life and his distinguished academic career. He was the son of Sylvia and Arnold Solomon and brother to David and Louis, all of whom preceded him in death.
Paul earned his B.S.B.A. and M.B.A. from the University of Denver, followed by a Ph.D. in Marketing from Arizona State University. This launched an academic path that made him one of the most beloved and influential professors at the University of South Florida (USF), where he taught for more than 39 years.
At USF, Paul touched thousands of lives through his teaching. He guided generations of students, chaired and served on doctoral committees, and championed scholars with patience, humor, and sincere care. He stayed connected with many former students, believing that relationships were the true legacy of an educator.
Paul’s academic contributions were substantial. Over his career, he published more than 50 peer-reviewed journal articles, co-authored a prominent textbook, and presented research around the world. His work was widely respected, and his teaching excellence earned him numerous awards, including multiple “Marketing Professor of the Year” honors from USF and recognition from Tulane University’s Executive MBA Program.
Outside academia, Paul loved life deeply. He enjoyed great music, fine wine, delicious food, and the company of friends. Known for his wit, warmth, and infectious laugh, he made friends easily and kept them throughout his life. He genuinely loved people, and they loved him back.
Paul was also a gifted athlete. While many knew him as an avid golfer, he had once been a ranked racquetball player. Golf remained a lifelong passion, and he spent many enjoyable hours on the course with friends at Temple Terrace, where he also served on the Board of Directors.
Some of his happiest moments were playing golf with his son, Scott, with whom he shared a close bond. He also loved his daughter-in-law, Kristina, whom he welcomed with warmth and affection.
On July 3, 2001, Paul and Jill married. Together they created a home filled with laughter and unwavering devotion. Their two Bichon Frisés, first Buckles and then Bijou, brought them endless joy. Paul and Jill loved to travel, exploring new places with the curiosity that defined them.
At his core, Paul was a connector: a man who lifted others, believed in people, and mentored with intention. He leaves behind his wife Jill, his son Scott, daughter-in-law Kristina, sisters-in-law Madeleine & Nancy, nieces Anna & Carrie, countless students, colleagues, and friends, and a legacy etched into the hearts of all who knew him.
