Pearl entered into Life Oct. 26, 1932 and entered into Rest January 1, 2021.
Pearl was the only child of Marion Telford Valdez born in Somerset, Bermuda. Pearl was raised by her Grandmother Geraldine Telford until she was 10yrs old in Somerset. She departed Bermuda in 1942 by Ship to New York City to join her mother and father Marion and John Valdez. Her journey by sea brought her to Ellis Island where she was picked up by her parents and lived on 163rd Street in Bronx, New York.
Pearl attended Walton High School and graduated in 1950. During that time she met Robert James Campbell. On January 17, 1953 Pearl married Robert James Campbell and was married for almost 50 years until his passing in 2002. They had 6 children: Phyllis M. Campbell-Shipman, Karin N. Campbell Albert, Kevin Robert Campbell, Robert Wayne Campbell, Rudy Curry Campbell, and TinaMarie N. Campbell, where they raised us in Throggs Neck and then Castle Hill in Bronx, New York. Pearl also took care of three foster children: Johnny Magroe, Lucy Lu, and Regina until they returned home to their families.
Pearl is predeceased by her husband Robert James Campbell and her three sons: Kevin Robert Campbell, Robert Wayne Campbell, and Rudy Curry Campbell.
Pearl started her career employed at Albert Einstein Hospital in the Bronx as a Switchboard Operator. Pearl then worked for State Senator Joseph L. Gallagher of the Bronx, NY for about two years and then served as PTA President of PS 131 in Bronx, NY from 1970-1972. She then volunteered and ran a
Summer Theater Program for youths at Stevenson High School. Her employment at The NYC Department of Motor Vehicles in Parkchester, New York was her longest employment in which she retired from in 1993. She had several positions, but her longest position was giving Driving License Road Tests even though she was a speed demon herself! :)
Pearl and Robert retired to Melbourne Florida in 1994, and resided there until June 2020 when her health began failing her. She moved in with her 2nd daughter Karin in Tampa, Florida until she received her wings and Transitioned home to be with the Lord, her husband, three sons, and family & friends. She is now at Rest!
Pearl was a lover of life! She loved to travel and loved being outdoors where she developed a magical green thumb. If you ever stopped by the house and the door was open, but she didn't appear home it meant she was in her backyard. She had everything including a pool and a greenhouse: beautiful plants, trees, fruits, vegetables etc. She also loved to quilt, crochet, knit, yell at the TV, and read (especially James Patterson's Books).
Pearl was charismatic, smart, beautiful, independent, proud, feisty, loving, caring, inspiring, and unintentionally funny. She had such an infectious laugh.
If you knew Pearl you knew she did not like talking on the phone even though she had no problem talking to everybody and talking at the movies. She was opinionated and stubborn at times and had a truck drivers mouth as she called it, but she was always willing to help others. We loved her dearly and even though she may no longer be here on earth she is in the Presence of our Lord and Savior.
May you Rest in Peace Mom "Mama" and know you're in our Hearts Always and FOREVER, Never to be Forgotten.
Pearl is survived by her three daughters: Phyllis M. Campbell-Shipman, Karin N. Campbell Albert and TinaMarie N. Campbell. Ten grand children: Tyhisha Starr Campbell Childs, Nicole D. Albert, Gabrielle M. Albert, Badillo Kevin Campbell, Jade I. Campbell, Marcus J.K. Albert, Vanessa Campbell, Eli Fisher, Christina K. Fisher, and Reese Campbell.
