Suellen Strohm, born to Ellen Robbins and William Rinehart in Columbus, Ohio, on January 26, 1940, passed away October 1, 2020 in Tampa, Florida. She leaves behind to mourn her loss her beloved husband of 63 years, Ted Strohm; daughter, Terri Searcy (Gary); son, Charlie Strohm (Paula); grandson, Aaron Searcy; great-grandson, Logan Searcy, of Tampa; brother, Paul Brown (Cathy), of Columbus, Ohio; and numerous extended family members and friends throughout the U.S. Sue was predeceased by her parents; stepfather, Ralph Brown; sister, Jan Coburn; and treasured grandson, James Blake Searcy.
Upon graduation from West High School in 1957, Sue moved with her husband from Columbus, Ohio to Florida while he was in the United States Air Force. Upon his service completion they returned to Columbus. Several years later his employment took them to Montgomery, Alabama then to Miami and, finally, Tampa. Sue was a homemaker until her children were grown and then established a residential cleaning business which she successfully ran until her retirement in 2008. Ted and Sue then purchased their ”half-back” home in Tennessee where they could relax, feel the cool breezes, and watch the hummingbirds from their backyard feeder.
Returning to Columbus for family visits occurred twice a year like clockwork. Sue not only enjoyed traveling to visit family, she also enjoyed exploring the sites in Arizona, Nevada, and, especially, California. Sue was a very good at word games, especially Scrabble, and loved all kinds of card games, spending hours playing Canasta on her iPad. Sue spent a great deal of time crocheting gifts for others over the years, making blankets, kitchen items, sweaters, purses, hats, socks, and holiday decorations. She was also the family historian by always seeming to have a camera at any family event and has left us numerous photo albums to be cherished for years to come.
Rest in peace, our amazing Wife, Mom, Grandma, and Great-Grandma (GiGi). You will continue to be loved and missed every day. Forever. XOXOXO
A private service will be held at a later date in Columbus, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity in Sue's memory.
