Thomas Kirkland Smith, father, grandfather, son, and brother, passed away in his own home. Thomas, known affectionately as Kirk, leaves behind a legacy of service, a lively family, and a passion for literature and animals.
Kirk was born Oct. 18, 1945 to W.H. and Wanda Smith, where he grew up alongside his siblings, Lt. Col. Spencer Smith and Sharon Prada. After high school, he later earned a B.A. in English at Rutgers University, a testament to his lifelong love of reading and learning.
Following his degree, his life was marked by his dedicated service to his country as a 1st Lieutenant and decorated Vietnam Veteran. Kirk's bravery and commitment earned him the respect of his peers and the gratitude of his nation.
He is survived by his children: Tracey Smith-Rockett, Kerry Smith, and Paul (Alec) Smith, and his grandchildren: Christine Scott, Keaton Copeland, and Kierra Midkiff.
Kirk had a soft spot for animals, especially cats. He often found joy in their companionship and was known for his kindness towards them.
Kirk has passed on many lessons to his descendants, but the most important of those would be compassion, intellectual curiosity, and a true understanding of how impactful your family can be.
