William Marion Hendry III

Hendry III, William M., 95, of Tampa, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024 to be with his Lord and Savior. Bill was born at Tampa General Hospital and lived in Tampa his entire life; attending Jesuit High School and graduating from Florida Southern College before joining the Coast Guard and then entering banking, insurance and real estate. He would marry Dorothy “Ordy” Taprell, and enjoy a 50 year marriage along with their sons, William M Hendry, Haynes T. Hendry and Sidney T. “Tap” Hendry and grandchildren Caroline, Amanda, Kristen, Sara and Sid. Bill was above all a family man and enjoyed family vacations, introducing his children to camping in FL, summers at Indian Rocks and Belleair Beach and the mountains of Lake Junaluska NC. Bill loved celebrating the holiday seasons, birthdays and many family gatherings. He especially loved the Georgia/Florida football games and spending time with lifelong friends. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Tampa, The Followers at PCPC, The Merrymakers Club, DKE fraternity and was a past member of The Tampa Yacht Club, St. Andrews Episcopal Church, The Exchange Club, Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla, Palma Ceia Golf and Country Club, the University Club, and, was past president of The Salvation Army. After Ordy’s passing, Bill met Joan Noojin at church and soon married her. They enjoyed many years together traveling abroad and spending the summers in the mountains. They enjoyed spending time with Joan’s children Niki (Mack), Rob (Velma), and Laura and her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents W. Marion and Ruth Hendry, Ordy Hendry and Joan Hendry. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salvation Army.
