Alan Leonard Pelzel, age 74, of Troy, Texas, passed away Friday, October 17, 2025, surrounded by family. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at St. Luke Catholic Church, with Rev. John Guzaldo as celebrant. Burial will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park.
Alan was born on September 2, 1951, in Cameron, Texas, to the late Leonard Fritz Pelzel and Selma Lee Folschinsky Pelzel. He grew up in Burlington, Texas, and attended Rosebud High School. He later took classes at Temple College.
On October 7, 1972, Alan married his sweetheart, Kathryn Schneider, beginning a 53-year marriage filled with love, laughter, and family. Together they raised three daughters — Jessica Doskocil (married to Paul), Jennifer, and Allison — and were blessed with three grandchildren: Collin, Brenden, and Makinley Doskocil.
Alan was a devoted husband, father, and “Pawpaw.” He lived a life centered on faith and family. A lifelong Christian, he became a member of the Catholic Church in 1972 and remained a faithful believer throughout his life.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, always happiest in the great outdoors. In his younger years, Alan’s love for music led him to sing and play guitar with the band Marvin and the Casuals, where he shared his gift and joy for music with others.
Alan was also a hardworking businessman, owning and operating several convenience and small-town grocery stores throughout the area over the years. He built lasting friendships through his work and his generous spirit.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his beloved daughter, Jennifer Pelzel.
Alan is survived by his loving wife, Kathryn Pelzel; daughters, Jessica Doskocil and Allison Pelzel; grandchildren, Collin, Brenden, and Makinley Doskocil; and sisters, Shirley Brown and Jeanie Kirk.
The family will receive visitors from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 20, 2025, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home, with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the St. Luke Catholic Church Building Fund.
Alan will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His faith, kindness, and humor will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
