

Alfred E. Lastovica, Sr. age 93 a resident of Temple for 65 years, died Wednesday, January 9, 2013 in a local care center. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, January 11, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Alfred Lastovica, Jr., Sean Lastovica, Joey Stallings, and Ernest Lastovica officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday at Estes Family Cemetery in Clyde, Texas, Mr. Lastovica was born January 17, 1920 in Kovar, Texas to Paul and Mary Lastovica and was raised in Smithville, Texas and moved to Abilene, Texas in 1941 and worked for Crowell Jewelers from 1942-1945. January 15, 1945, he married Joan Estes of Clyde and entered the U. S. Army that same year. He was in the 7th Division, 17th infantry. He went to Ft. Hood, Texas, Hawaii, Marion Island, Saipan, Okinawa, and Korea. He was ranked as the 1st cook and he was discharged in August, 1946 and went back to work for Crowell Jewelers until 1950. He moved to Temple in 1950 and worked for Sheldon Jewelers until he and his wife Joan started Lastovica Fine Jewelers in 1952. He was a jeweler and watch maker and could fix just about anything. He retired in 1985 and continued to fix watches and clocks part time until about three years ago. He was a member of Leon Valley Church of Christ. He was a faithful, loyal, hardworking, devoted man of God and he loved helping other people. He was devoted to his wife Joan of 67 years, who preceded him in death October 21, 2012. He loved his children, their families, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mary Lastovica, brothers, Emil Lastovica, Rudolf Lastovica, Paul Lastovica and Arnold Lastovica and sisters, Betty Festervan, Mary Archie, and Elsie Reed, two half-brothers, Daniel and Edward Lastovica, and two half- sisters, Josephine Bosenbach and Lillian Valka. He is survived by his half-sisters, Elinora Lindsey, Frances Hendrix and her husband Carl, and half-brother, William Lastovica; three sons, Alfred E. Lastovica, Jr, and wife Becky of Missouri City, Billy Bob Lastovica and wife Helen of Belton, Johnny Jim Lastovica and wife Diane of Salado and one daughter, Rebecca Ann Lastovica Teague and husband Billy of Searcy, Arkansas; nine grandchildren, Heather Lastovica Stallings and husband Bobby of Sugar Land, Sean Lastovica and wife Ashley of San Marcos, California, Lisa Ford and husband Bill of Searcy, Arkansas, Chris Lastovica of Corpus Christi, Leslie Henry and husband Ty of Little Rock, Arkansas, Stephen Lastovica of Missouri City, Lynn Brunning and husband Isaac of Basalt, Colorado, Nicolas Lastovica and wife Mary of Columbia, S. Carolina, and Matthew Lastovica of Salado; fifteen great-grandchildren Joey Stallings of Searcy, Arkansas, Kaitlyn Stallings, Alyssa Stallings, Hayley Lastovica all of Sugar Land, Teddy Lastovica and Reagan Lastovica both of San Marcos, California, Noah Ford, Micah Ford, Nora Rose Ford, Anna Lilly Ford, and Selah Ford all of Searcy, Arkansas, Will Henry of Little Rock, Arkansas, Lucas Lastovica, Shinji Lastovica, and Dominic Lastovica all of Columbia, S. Carolina. He is, also, survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
