It is with great love and sorrow that we share that Ann-Christine Smith, lovingly known as Ankie, went to be with Jesus peacefully in her sleep on June 16, 2025, in Temple, Texas, at the age of 81.
Ankie was born on May 3, 1944, in Lysekil, Sweden, a country and heritage she carried proudly throughout her life. She was a devoted mother to Krista Eshbaugh (married to Calvin Eshbaugh) and Kari Conley (married to Chad Conley). She was a cherished Mormor (grandmother) to her barnbarn Andrew Eshbaugh (married to Sydney Eshbaugh), Daniel Eshbaugh, Chris Eshbaugh, Carson Conley, and Camryn Conley. She was a loving Gammel Mormor (great-grandmother) to her barnbarnsbarn, Ruth Eshbaugh, daughter of Andrew and Sydney.
Ankie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill Smith. Her family was the joy of her life, and she found deep pride in watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild grow.
From her childhood as a ballerina in Sweden to her 80th birthday line-dancing in Texas, Ankie was a lifelong dancer who used dance as a constant source of joy and form of connection with those she loved. She had an extraordinary gift for lighting up a room with her charm, and her immense generosity and kind spirit were felt by all who knew her.
A celebration of Ankie’s life will be held on Saturday, June 21st at Scanio Harper Funeral Home (3110 Airport Road, Temple, TX). Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m.
In honor of Ankie’s Swedish heritage, the family kindly requests that guests wear blue and yellow to represent the Swedish Flag. Please, no black attire. All who loved her are welcome to join in celebrating her remarkable life.
The family has plans to bring Ankie's ashes to Sweden and do a celebration of life with her Swedish family, time to be determined.
