OBITUARIO

Bernard Davis

12 noviembre , 19449 enero , 2021

Bernard “Bernie” Davis was called home to be with the Lord, on January 09, 2021, after a long illness with complications.

Bernard Davis was born on November 12, 1944, in Denver Colorado, to the late Evan and Bertha Leona Henry Davis. He was one of nine siblings.

Bernie married Cary Ann Lollar (mother of his children) in 1963 in Roswell New Mexico. During this next decade of his life he worked in many different capacities in the grocery business and was transferred several times through these years between New Mexico and Texas. He loved fast cars and drag racing...

In 1974 he settled his family in Phoenix Arizona. Here he was very engaged with his children, whether it be setting up the garage to accommodate his son’s band practice, or taking his daughter and 14 of her friends to the skating rink, or taking his kids and their friends out on the boat. In the early 1980s he established, owned and operated a couple of videos stores. This was a fulfilling venture for him through most of the 80s.

He was able to walk his daughter down the aisle when she married the love of her life. When asked “who gives this woman to be married to this man?,” he responded, her grandmother and I. He then leaned in and whispered to the groom “And you can’t give her back.”

In 1992 he was transferred by his employer, McLane Company, to Temple, Texas, where he met his beloved wife Barbara. He then spent the next 25 years enjoying his life with his wife, his dogs, cars, trucks, and Harleys. He had a passion for riding his Harley‘s with his friends and family. Especially at 100mph, down a country road, with his wife or daughter on the back.

Bernie retired in 2016 from a long and fulfilling career as a buyer with McLane Company.

Bernie enjoyed life… He was a very loving and supportive husband and father. He was always present, engaging and available, and always there for his kids and grandkids.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Hines, son, Jerry Davis, daughter, Stephanie Rushford and husband Mark, 4 Grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and his 3 dogs.

He is also survived by his sisters Anita Smith, and Jean Hooper and husband Ed.

A funeral service will not be held at this time. A future date will be appointed for a private family service.

Rest in peace Beloved, husband, father, brother until we meet again.

It was early on a beautiful Sunday morning and Bernie, our mutual friend T,.K. and I were riding a back road going to eat breakfast at one of our favorite haunts. Bernie was in the lead and riding at about 75 mph when I saw a deer in front of him on the side of the road. As luck would have it the deer jumped in front of Bernie and Bernie struck him broadside. I could see something spray in the air and for a few seconds the deer appeared to ride on Bernie’s handlebars. Just as I was thinking it’s going to be OK, Bernie is apparently going to be able to come to a controlled stop, the deer’s leg caught in the spokes in Bernie’s front wheel. The bike went one way, the deer went another way and Bernie landed on the pavement rolling from one shoulder to the other for about 50 feet. (He later would tell me that each time he rolled on his back and his helmet would hit the pavement he would say to himself “well I’m still here, I’m still here . . . .”)

I got my bike stopped and ran to Bernie, By then he was trying to sit up and I tried to discourage him because he appeared to be injured. He wouldn’t have any of that and sat up. We called for paramedics, While waiting for them to arrive on scene, Bernie put a cigarette in his mouth and handed me his cigarette lighter saying “will you light this for me? They’re not going to let me smoke in the ambulance and I have a small problem working the lighter right now.”. He held out his hand and his thumb was bent backwards at the joint. It was at that point that I felt pretty sure he was going to be alright. He then said “I think I’ll burn two before they get here” and he did just that.
