

Billy B. “Poppy” Slaughter, age 82 of Temple, died Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held at 2:30pm Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Milne officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery near Troy. The family will receive visitors from 5-7:00pm Friday, December 14, 2018 at the funeral home.
Mr. Slaughter was born on February 10, 1936 in Troy, Texas to the late Holland Bryan Slaughter and Marcella Keetch Slaughter. He attended schools in Troy and graduated from Troy High School in 1956. Billy served his country in the National Guard over 8 years and was called into active duty with the U.S. Army for a year and was honorably discharged in 1962. He married the former Kathy Cone on June 8, 1961 in Troy and was a self-employed paint contractor for many years. Billy was also a long-time member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He loved his model airplanes, circle track racing as well as camping with his family at the lake. Billy was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Johnny Mack Slaughter.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Kathy Slaughter of Temple; two daughters, Debra Ann Berry and husband Randy of Troy and Connie Kay Knight and husband Vince of Temple; five grandchildren, Nicholas Boehme, Tyson Wyche, Joshua Stracener, Justin Stracener and Seth Wyche; and one great grandchild, Landon Stracener.
Memorials may be given in Mr. Slaughter’s name to Texas Home Health Hospice, 8300 Central Park Drive, Suite A., Waco, Texas 76712.
The family wants to thank Texas Home Health Hospice with special thanks to Jennifer and Bandera, Billy’s special angels, for the loving and compassionate care given to him in his final months.
Pallbearers will be Nicholas Boehme, Tyson Wyche, Joshua Stracener, Justin Stracener, Seth Wyche and Michael Millender.
