

Brian Wayne Winkler, 52, of The Grove, Texas passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 1, 2013. Services will be held Saturday, May 4, at 10:00 am at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, The Grove followed by interment at the Moody-Leon Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple, Texas on Friday, May 3, from 6 to 8 pm. He was born November 19, 1960, to Bernie and Carolyn Winkler in New Braunfels, Texas. Brian grew up in New Braunfels where he graduated from New Braunfels High School in 1979. He played Unicorn varsity football and was sports editor for the yearbook. He attended Southwest Texas State University. He worked as a mechanic in the oil field industry and as a heavy equipment operator and supervisor for construction companies in the Temple area. Brian's many passions included reading, building WWII era model planes, cooking, hunting, and meeting people through social networking. He especially relished history and politics and had a deep love for his country. He also had a special interest in genealogy, serving as the family historian. He looked forward to spending time with his daughter, Sara. He was preceded in death by his father, Bernie Winkler. Survivors include his mother, Carolyn Winkler of The Grove; a daughter, Sara Winkler of Moffat; sister, Beverly Villarreal and husband, Felix of Austin; sister, Carrie Smith and husband, Gene of The Grove ; brother, Chris Winkler and wife, Kim of Burnet; sister, Donna Winkler of The Grove and former wife, Judy Winkler and stepson, Darrell Keeling both of Moffat. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church, The Grove, Texas.
