

Christian Oscar Bierwirth, age 100 of Temple, died Sunday, February 15, 2015 at the William Courtney State Veterans Home. Services will be held at 2:00pm Sunday, February 22, 2015 at Grace Presbyterian with Dr. Thom Lamb officiating. Mr. Bierwirth was born on November 30, 1914 in Hearne, Texas to the late Oscar Bierwirth and Margaret Rosa Kranz Bierwirth. He attended schools in Marlin, Texas and graduated from San Angelo High School. Chris also graduated from the University of Texas. On April 11, 1966, Chris married Caroline Casagranda in Pueblo, Colorado and she preceded him in death on July 3, 2007. Chris was honorably discharged from the Air Force, serving during WWII as an x-ray technician. He was a nurse anesthetist for the VA Hospital for many years, retiring in 1985. Chris was a member of the Boy Scouts, Order of the Arrow and enjoyed fixing cars, building homes, gardening and fishing. He was preceded in death by his wife, two sisters and one brother. Survivors include a daughter, Margo Bierwirth-Wyatt of Temple; a son, Matt Bierwirth and wife Meg of Waco; grandchildren, Ben and Greta Svalberg, Noah, Gabe, Timothy and Matthew Bierwirth and Mara, Minda and Mia Wyatt. Memorials may be given in Mr. Bierwirth's name to Grace Presbyterian Church, 2401 S. 57th Street, Temple, Texas 76504.
