Consuelo Silva, 91, passed away on March 17, 2024 at a local nursing home. She was born to Salome Lerma and Elisa Guajardo on July 2, 1932 in Belton, TX. She married Benito “Bennie” Silva in 1950 in Temple, Tx. She was a long-time parishioner of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic church. She served many years as a Guadalupana.
Her first job was working at the Bluebonnet Café then moved on to work at Kress’s Drugstore in Temple as a cashier. Then, she worked several years as a cafeteria cashier at Scott & White Hospital. She also worked for the VA Hospital in Temple, Molitor’s Toy Store, as well for TISD at Jefferson Elementary School as an aide in Special Education. As a child she lived with and worked for a UMHB teacher, Lucille Capp, in Belton where she was home-schooled and taught some piano in her early years. She also attended a few years in the Belton ISD school but was not able to complete elementary school. Because she did not get a complete education, her priority was to provide and work toward all 6 of her children getting a college degree or at least work toward that. She finally worked to achieve a GED years later as an adult homemaker.
In earlier years, she loved going to dances, sewing, watching football, and cooking for her large family. She was known for sharing her delicious pork tamales with friends and family every year.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Benito “Bennie” Silva; son, Benny Silva, Jr.; daughter, Stella Silva; daughter, Maria Silva; grandson, Austin D. Silva and great-grandson, Jack Rider Claycomb.
Consuelo is survived by her sister, Janie Lerma Lara; daughter, Rebecca Northen and spouse Norman of Temple; son, David D. Silva and spouse Suzanne of Dallas and daughter, Juliana Davis and spouse Jeff of Buda. She has several grandchildren, Joseph M. Silva and spouse Rachel, Gregorio B. Palomino and spouse Ari, Christopher Northen and spouse Sarah, Elisa Northen Claycomb and spouse Rodger, Samantha Silva, Charlie Silva, Ella Davis and BeBe Davis. She also has nine great-grandchildren, Nathan Palomino, Joakim Palomino, Guillem Palomino, Hex Palomino, Everett Northen, Iris Kate Northen and Walter Banks Claycomb, as well as several nieces and nephews.
There will be a private family burial at Hillcrest Cemetery.
