CSM Ret. Robert L. Slaton, age 82, of Temple died Monday, May 25, 2009 in a local nursing center. A private memorial service was held. Mr. Slaton was born on January 25, 1927 in Enloe, Texas to Robert Lee and Lucy (Haddock) Slaton. He was a longtime resident of Temple. He served in the U. S. Navy during WWII. After WWII he enlisted in the U. S. Army and retired in 1970 as a Command Sergeant Major after over 26 years of service. He also served in Korea and Vietnam. He married Jean E. Nicholson on August 18, 1949 in Pittsburg, California. He was a member of Knob Creek Masonic Lodge #401. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Jean E. Slaton of Temple, one son, Gerald L. Slaton of Temple and one grandson, Cory D. Slaton of Austin. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Lung Association, Scott & White Hospice or one's charity of choice.
