You may have known him as Dennis Ray Woodum, but we knew him as Cherished Husband, Daddy, PawPaw, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend to all who knew him and many who didn’t. He remains loved by everyone, who some describe as ineffable (Google it!), legendary, mischievous, adventurous, energetic, kind, peaceful, beloved, generous, genuine, forever young, handsome, friendly, peace loving, peace seeking, amiable, authentic, compassionate, helpful, fair, witty, smart as a whip, resilient, stubborn, bull-headed, free spirited, sincere, honest, trustworthy, soulful, beautiful-hearted, dedicated, devoted, romantic, sentimental, fiercely loyal, a soldier, a patriot, a Vietnam Veteran, a hero, a warrior, an educator, a mentor, a life enthusiast, a peacemaker, a hippie, a sweetheart, a singer of songs, a musician, a photographer, a fisherman, a golfer, a biker, a prospector, a craftsman, a landscaper, a grill master, a pyrotechnician, a financier, a bail bondsman, an animal lover, a guardian angel, a funny guy, a spinner of yarns, a storyteller, a hitchhiker, a road tripper, a joker, a midnight toker, and a Bud Light connoisseur. Dilly, dilly!
Dennis fell in love with Cindy when he first laid eyes on her in 1967, whom he later married, and with whom he spent the past 47 interesting--to say the least--years creating a life together. Dennis loved his children, Heidi Nicole (Woodum) Fabian, Joshua Theo Woodum, and their respective spouses, Daniel Fabian and Amy Fairclough, almost as much as he loved his six grandchildren, Cotton Theo, Miles Ray, Baylie Rose, Caylin Jacee, Koda Matus, and Rinlee Nara. Also surviving are two brothers, Jimmy Woodum and wife, Donna of Katy, and Robert Woodum, and wife, Laura of Belton and one sister, Barbara Maisel and husband, Chris of Houston. Perhaps the one who will miss him most is his beloved Boston Terrier, Zeus.
Services for Mr. Woodum will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple. Visitation will be 9-10 a.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Soldiers Project, 4605 Lankershim Blvd., Suite 720, North Hollywood, CA 91602 (thesoldiersproject.org).
