Donald Hugh Southerland

Memorial services for Donald Hugh Southerland, 77, of the Bottoms Community will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Mike McMurtry officiating. Mr. Southerland died Thursday in a Temple hospital. Mr. Southerland was born October 22, 1938 in Pendleton to Reuben Hugh Southerland and Annie Laura Bradshaw Southerland. He graduated from Troy High school in 1956 and attended Temple College.  He served in the U.S. Air Force.  He lived in the Temple area all of his life except for eleven years that he lived in Austin.  He married Linda Smith February 28, 1975.  He worked for Economy Furniture in Austin and worked for Prudential Insurance and retired from E.R. Carpenter Company.  He was a Baptist, a member of Elks Lodge #138 and American Legion Post 133.  He was an avid sportsman and golfer.Mr. Southerland was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Dan Southerland and Bob Southerland and one sister Joy Golightly. Survivors include his wife Linda Southerland of the Bottoms Community, one daughter Angela Brown of Temple; one sister Patricia Pomykal of Joshua and two grandchildren Parker Brown of Lubbock and Emily Brown of Temple.
