

Doris G. Garner, age 89, of Temple died Sunday, May 22, 2011 in a local nursing center. Services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, May 25 at Little River United Methodist Church with Rev. Yohan Baek and Rev. Don Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Wilson Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 PM Tuesday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Mrs. Garner was born November 1, 1921 in Bell County to Wesley and Lillie (Hall) Henderson. She was reared and educated in Belton and Academy. She was a graduate of Academy High School where she was salutatorian of her class. She married George E. Garner on January 6, 1940. He preceded her in death in 1971. She worked as an LVN for 24 years at King's Daughters Hospital and Scott & White Hospital retiring on January 1, 1986. She was a member of Little River United Methodist Church where she had been a member for 70 years. She was one of the first winners of the Bell County Spelling Bee. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, M. W. Henderson, Jr. and Oscar Henderson. Survivors include one son, Charles R. Garner and wife, Prescila of Garlard, two daughters, Carolyn Moore and husband, Howell of Little River-Academy, Georgia Reed-Sciabarrasi and husband, Angelo of Dallas and two grandchildren, Paul Moore and wife, Amy of Belton, Marian Kelso and husband, Tim of Little River-Academy and five great-grandchildren, Nikki Moore, Jordan Moore, Kayla Kelso, Kenzie Kelso and Bo Trevino. Active pallbearers are Mike Garner, Windle Kelley, Foy Green, Jimmy Cain, Paul Moore, Tim Kelso and Bill Henderson. Honorary pallbearers are Millard Dean Taylor, Earnest Cantrell and James Adams. Memorial donations may be made to Little River United Methodist Church or Wilson Valley Cemetery Association.
