Dorothy Guess

Dorothy, AKA, Dot, was born December 29, 1928 in Sparks, Texas to Ella and Frank Poncik.  She and her family moved to Rogers, Texas when she was in elementary school.  She graduated from Rogers High School and attended Mary-Hardin Baylor in Belton, Texas.  She later graduated from Nixon-Clay Commercial College in Austin in 1948.  She married B.M. Guess on November 13, 1949 at the First Baptist Church in Rogers.  She was a full time homemaker, wife, and mother to four children.  In 1964 she joined the family grocery business which then became Guess Grocery and Dry Goods.  Later she worked at the Veterans Administration in Temple until her retirement.  She enjoyed gardening and loved her pink roses.  Dorothy also enjoyed visiting her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Dorothy moved to Bedford in 2016 and later resided in Katy, Texas until her passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Mary Frances Nelson, husband and granddaughter, Kelly Lauren Whitted.

She is survived by children Marsha Horton and husband Daryl, David Bruce Guess and wife Debbi, Janet Whitted, and Linda Ray and husband James.  Grandchildren include Blake Horton, Allison Strother and husband Josh, Michael Guess and wife, Kim, Kristin Salcher and husband Michael, Taylor Ray and fiancée Kristen, and Garrett Ray; and by great grandchildren: Corinne, Leila Grace, Andrew, Ethan, Grace and Ellis.

Visitation will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 5 at First Baptist Church in Rogers, Texas followed by the Celebration of Life service at 12:00 PM.  Dr. Allen Raynor will officiate.  Burial will be at the Rogers Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Ray, Brian Ray, Jay Ray, Blake Horton, Josh Strother, Taylor Ray, Garrett Ray and Michael Guess.

Memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
